In a development that has raised eyebrows within the Nigerian music industry, Muyiwa Awoniyi, best known as the manager of Grammy-nominated singer Tems, has officially cut ties with Omah Lay, signalling the end of their professional relationship.

Awoniyi, also known as Donawon, announced on Friday, July 25, 2025, via his social media handle, confirming he would no longer be managing the ‘Soso’ crooner.

While his statement lacked a detailed explanation, it was quickly followed by a now-viral response to Kaestyle, the singer behind My Dealer, which hinted at behind-the-scenes drama.

In the post, Donawon stated pointedly:
“I agreed to manage Omah to get him out of the very slave deal that you signed. Now he is out, I also am out. You on the other hand are a slave.”

This strong statement has ignited speculation about alleged contractual issues within the label and the possible reasons behind Awoniyi’s abrupt exit.

In response to the announcement, Omah Lay took to social platform X to express his gratitude toward his former manager, thanking him for his contribution to his career growth.

Known for his outspoken views on artist exploitation and transparency in the music business, Donawon’s exit appears to be a principled stand, possibly pointing to deeper issues within the industry’s inner workings.

As fans await further details, the situation has sparked widespread conversation about artist-label dynamics and the integrity of music management in Nigeria.

@IAmDonawon The most intelligent nigga I’ve met so far in the game, love you forever my blood💜 🕊️☀️
