Tems is the first Nigerian female artist to have her work certified gold in the United States.
Tems has set a new standard for Nigerian female artists by becoming the first and only one to accomplish an unthinkable accomplishment in the US with her hit tune ‘Free Mind.’
Tems’ ‘Free Mind’ has been certified Gold by the RIAA in the United States after the successful solo song sold over 500,000 sales in the country alone.
The blockbuster song, which was published on September 25, 2020, off her “For Broken Ears” EP has gone viral globally, with the smash song presently charting on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2022.
It also reached number one on the Billboard US Afrobeats Chart and made its debut on the Billboard US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and Billboard US Rhythmic charts.
This is not Tems‘ first RIAA certification as she has also been acknowledged for her contribution to collaborations; ‘Essence‘ and ‘Wait For U‘ both received platinum certifications from the RIAA.
