Among the luminaries in attendance were industry powerhouses such as Pink Panthress, 3-time Grammy winner Victoria Monet, K-pop sensation New Jeans, Ice Spice, Justin Skye, Saweetie, and Coco Jones, adding to the prestigious aura of the ceremony. Additionally, Koral G was honored with the Woman of the Year award, presented by Sofia Vergara.
Tems was featured on the cover of the Billboard Women in Music Issue and won the Breakthrough Award.
The talented artist performed Not an Angel during the ceremony. While collecting the award, she dedicated it to her mum. She said, “My heart hasn’t stopped beating for the past 30 minutes. One thing that is uniquely special to me is that I am in a room full of amazing women and I am standing with a continent behind me. I want to dedicate this award to my mum who is the first woman I ever met”.
She was dubbed a “catalyst” for the new wave of female musicians by Billboard.
According to the publication, “While Tiwa Savage and Yemi Alade led the charge for African female artists in the 2010s, in this decade, Tems has paved the way for a new generation that also includes Ayra Starr and Tyla” .
