The 22-year-old attacker has penned a five-year contract with the North London side, which also includes an option to extend for an additional two years. He successfully underwent medical tests on Thursday before finalising the switch.

Speaking to Spurs’ official media, Simons expressed his delight:

“I’m really happy and can’t wait to get going. I’ve been dreaming of this for a long time. It’s a great club and when I met the head coach I knew straight away this was the right place for me. I will bring flair to the team but also hard work and discipline. I want to do everything I can to win, for the team and also for the fans.”

Head coach Thomas Frank hailed the move, describing Simons as a perfect fit for his project.

Simons, a product of Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy, has previously featured for Paris Saint-Germain and PSV Eindhoven before joining RB Leipzig.

When does the 2024/25 Champions League begin?

The dates for each fixture will not be confirmed until Saturday, but UEFA has revealed when each matchday will take place. Whereas the previous format saw the group stage wrapped up by Christmas, the new Swiss model will take the league phase to the end of January.

The sides who finished from ninth to 24th will compete in the knockout round playoffs in February for places in the last 16, where the clubs ranked from first to eighth will be waiting.

UEFA has released the new club coefficient standings for the 2024/25 season, with Manchester City retaining their place at number one.

Coefficients are used to determine seedings in draws for UEFA’s club competitions, with points earned based on a weighted algorithm linked to continental performances.

Results over the last four seasons, along with the home association’s coefficient at that time, are used to calculate club rankings. For the 2024–25 season, rankings are determined based on performances from the 2020–21 campaign onwards.

Manchester City will sit at the top of the standings for a second straight year, while Real Madrid has moved up to second place after winning their 15th Champions League. Bayern Munich and Liverpool are third and fourth, respectively, while Roma, who have enjoyed deep European runs this decade, are surprisingly in fifth.

Paris Saint-Germain, Villarreal, Borussia Dortmund, Chelsea, and Inter complete the top ten. Manchester United come in at 14th.

There are some unusual, yet deserved, rankings beyond that. The 2023 Conference League winners, West Ham United, are 16th, with Atletico Madrid (17th), Barcelona (18th), and Arsenal (19th) directly following them.

Italian giants Napoli (21st), AC Milan (22nd), and Juventus (23rd) all sit outside the top 20 following mixed results in Europe. Scottish side Rangers are a little further back at 28th, still benefiting from points accumulated from their memorable run to the 2021/22 Europa League final.

One of the most surprising placements is that of Tottenham Hotspur, who come in at 45th after missing out on European football last season and not advancing to the latter rounds of competitions recently.

Manchester City have confirmed the signing of center-back Josko Gvardiol from RB Leipzig.

City reportedly agreed to pay an initial £77.5 million to get Gvardiol. He has completed a transfer from RB Leipzig to the current Premier League and European winners. The medical with the Cityzens was announced by manager Pep Guardiola on Friday, and the deal has since been finalised.

A five-year contract has been signed by Gvardiol, who becomes City’s second arrival of the summer after fellow Croatian Mateo Kovacic’s move from Chelsea.

The signing of Croatian defender Joko Gvardiol by Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City team appears to be getting closer.

According to reports, the 21-year-old defender has already reached a personal agreement with the triple winners, but RB Leipzig has now revealed that they are in transfer negotiations with City.

On Sunday, RB Leipzig sporting director Max Eberl told German outlet LVZ: “I can confirm that Joško Gvardiol and agents told us about their desire to move to Manchester City. We are in talks with Manchester. That’s all there is to say at the moment.”

Leipzig is said to be holding out for a bid of at least €100 million, which would make Gvardiol the most expensive defender in history.

Liverpool have announced the signing of Dominik Szoboszlai from RB Leipzig.

After signing in Alexis Mac Allister earlier in the summer transfer season, the Reds have gotten a second midfielder.

They have moved quickly to sign Hungary international Szoboszlai. We revealed on Wednesday that contact had been made with the player’s camp and he was keen on a move to Anfield.

It is understood that Newcastle United, who lost out on James Maddison to Tottenham Hotspur, had expressed interest in Szoboszlai but were turned off by his high release clause.

Liverpool agreed to put Szoboszlai’s £60 million release clause on the table on Friday after previously signalling they were hesitant to do so. He then travelled to Merseyside for his medical.

Chelsea have announced the long-awaited signing of Christopher Nkunku from RB Leipzig. The Frenchman’s potential move to Stamford Bridge was the worst-kept secret in the sport over the last year, with reports claiming he passed a medical and agreed to join the Blues in December.

His £53 million release clause had to be triggered by Chelsea at the conclusion of the 2022–23 season, but the transfer is already finalized. Nkunku’s four-year tenure at RB Leipzig has come to an end as he has committed his future to the Blues through the year 2029.

After helping Leipzig finish the 2022–23 season in the top four and win the DFB–Pokal, Nkunku has already concluded moving to west London.

The 25-year-old expressed his delight over the move in a statement on Chelsea’s official website, which reads: “I am incredibly happy to be joining Chelsea,” said Nkunku. “A big effort was made to bring me to the club and I am looking forward to meeting my new coach and teammates and showing the Chelsea supporters what I can do on the pitch. Having played in Ligue 1 and the Bundesliga, I now want to play in the Premier League, one of the strongest leagues in the world. I am very excited for this challenge and will be proud to wear the Chelsea shirt.”

Chelsea’s co-sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley added: “Christopher has proved himself one of the standout attacking players in European football over the past two seasons and will add quality, creativity and versatility to our squad. He has demonstrated his ability at the highest level with RB Leipzig and France and we look forward to him joining up with his new teammates ahead of the new season.”

Nkunku becomes Mauricio Pochettino’s first official signing.

The 25-year-old struggled with injuries during the 2022/23 season but still had an impact in his final year at Leipzig, scoring 23 goals and assisting nine times in 36 games across all competitions.
