The 2025 summer transfer window will go down in history as one of the most dramatic and expensive periods football has ever seen.

Clubs across Europe splashed unprecedented sums, with total spending reaching a staggering €10.23 billion, a new record.

2025 Summer Transfer Window: Record-Breaking Deals In Football

Unsurprisingly, the Premier League once again dominated the headlines, accounting for more than €3.5 billion of that total.

No club captured attention quite like Liverpool. In what was described as a full-scale squad rebuild, the Reds secured Alexander Isak from Newcastle for a British record of £125 million, surpassing the fee Chelsea paid for Moisés Caicedo in 2023.

The Merseyside giants also added German star Florian Wirtz, striker Hugo Ekitiké, and flying full-back Jeremie Frimpong, making them the undisputed biggest spenders of the window. Despite earning €220 million from player sales, their net spend of €262 million was the second-highest across Europe.

If Liverpool dominated the headlines, Arsenal topped the financial charts. The Gunners invested heavily in attacking reinforcements, bringing in Viktor Gyökeres and Eberechi Eze, among others, while spending a total of €293.5m. With only €10.3m recouped in sales, they closed the window with the highest net spend of all clubs at €283.2m.

Manchester United also strengthened their front line, completing deals for Benjamin Šeško, Bryan Mbeumo, and Matheus Cunha. Chelsea, meanwhile, added João Pedro to their ranks but sanctioned a major outgoing as Nicolas Jackson joined Bayern Munich on a high-profile loan with an obligation to buy.

The Blues were once again Europe’s most successful sellers, generating €332m in player sales, over €100m more than any other club. Their standout departure was Noni Madueke, who sealed a €56m move to Arsenal.

The surprises weren’t limited to England. Liverpool captain Trent Alexander-Arnold left Anfield for Real Madrid, a move that stunned supporters and pundits alike. In Turkey, Victor Osimhen pulled off one of the most unexpected switches of the window, leaving Napoli for Galatasaray in a deal worth around €65m.

Meanwhile, newly promoted Sunderland made waves by spending €160m to bolster their squad. Their shopping list included striker Brian Brobbey and experienced midfielder Granit Xhaka, signaling serious intent to compete at the highest level.

The 2025 transfer market will be remembered not just for its eye-watering figures but for the boldness of the moves made. The three most expensive signings of the summer all belonged to Liverpool: Isak, Wirtz, and Ekitiké, underscoring the club’s ambition to remain at Europe’s summit.

Elsewhere, Arsenal’s financial gamble, Chelsea’s sales dominance, and the shock departures of household names like Alexander-Arnold and Osimhen highlighted the increasingly unpredictable nature of modern football.

As the dust settles, one thing is clear: the 2025/26 season is shaping up to be as dramatic on the pitch as it was off it.

Eight standout performers from seven different clubs headline the first Player of the Month shortlist of the campaign, while four tacticians are in the running for the Manager of the Month prize after guiding their sides to impressive early-season form.

Player of the Month Nominees – August 2025

Riccardo Calafiori (Arsenal) – Arsenal’s summer recruit has settled quickly at left back, balancing his defensive duties with attacking intent. He registered one goal, two assists, and two clean sheets in just three games.

Hugo Ekitiké (Liverpool) – The striker made a flying start, scoring two goals and one assist in his first three league outings, reminding new signing Alexander Isak that competition for places is fierce.

Jack Grealish (Everton) – Back on the shortlist after joining Everton on loan from Manchester City, Grealish delivered four assists in three matches, quickly becoming the creative hub of the Toffees’ attack.

Marc Guéhi (Crystal Palace) – Despite summer transfer speculation, Palace’s captain produced a calm, commanding month. He oversaw two clean sheets in away games and added a spectacular long-range strike against Aston Villa.

Erling Haaland (Manchester City) – Last year’s August winner is back in contention after firing three goals in three games, keeping City afloat during a mixed start to their title defence.

João Pedro (Chelsea) – The Brazilian midfielder was instrumental in Chelsea’s strong start, matching Grealish’s numbers with two goals and two assists across the month, including a dominant display against West Ham.

Antoine Semenyo (Bournemouth) – After a turbulent opening-day incident involving racist abuse allegations, Semenyo answered on the pitch with two goals against Liverpool and another assist against Wolves.

Dominik Szoboszlai (Liverpool) – The Hungarian playmaker capped his August with one of the moments of the month: a stunning free-kick winner against Arsenal, adding sparkle to Liverpool’s unbeaten run.

Régis Le Bris (Sunderland) – Back in the Premier League, Sunderland impressed with two wins from three matches. Le Bris’ ability to integrate new signings has been crucial, with Wilson Isidor’s brace off the bench providing a highlight.

Enzo Maresca (Chelsea) – Fresh from their Club World Cup triumph, Maresca’s Chelsea remain unbeaten. After a slow opener against Palace, the Blues rallied with statement wins over West Ham and Fulham to climb to second.

David Moyes (Everton) – Under pressure to deliver, Moyes has overseen a rejuvenated Everton side inspired by Grealish and Iliman Ndiaye. Two wins in three have lifted the mood around Goodison Park.

Arne Slot (Liverpool) – Slot’s Reds are the only side with a perfect record, sitting top of the table as the league’s leading scorers. Wins over Bournemouth, Newcastle, and Arsenal ensured momentum even before Isak’s arrival.

The 2025 FIFA Club World Cup Final took on a festival-like atmosphere as global music heavyweights lit up the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey with electrifying halftime performances on Sunday, July 13.

As Chelsea stormed to a dominant 3-0 lead against Paris Saint-Germain by halftime, thanks to a brace from Cole Palmer and a strike from Joao Pedro, the break brought more than just tactical team talks.

Fans across the globe were treated to FIFA’s first-ever official halftime show at the Club World Cup final, featuring a star-studded lineup that included Doja Cat, Coldplay, J Balvin, Tems, and Emmanuel Kelly.

American music sensation Doja Cat kicked off the show with a high-energy performance of her hit song “Woman”, setting the tone for the musical spectacle. British rock band Coldplay followed with their fan-favourite anthem “A Sky Full of Stars,” adding a euphoric touch to the already electric stadium atmosphere.

Premier League giants Chelsea FC have confirmed the signing of Brazilian forward Joao Pedro from Brighton & Hove Albion in a deal reportedly worth up to £60 million.

The 23-year-old attacker has penned a seven-year contract with the London club and has already travelled to the United States to join manager Enzo Maresca and his squad ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup.

According to FIFA regulations, clubs participating in the tournament are permitted to register new players between June 27 and July 3, which means Pedro is eligible to make his debut when Chelsea face Palmeiras in the quarter-finals on Saturday in Philadelphia.

“I grew up watching the Premier League, and Chelsea were a club that won trophies. So, when you join Chelsea, you can only think one thing: to win trophies,” Pedro said after the announcement.

“Every competition, you have to think, ‘I play for Chelsea and that is my ambition’.

Chelsea fended off competition from Newcastle United, who reportedly submitted a £50 million bid that was ultimately turned down.

It is understood Pedro had his heart set on a move to Stamford Bridge, prioritising Chelsea over other suitors.

Pedro’s transfer also activates a sell-on clause agreed when Watford sold him to Brighton in 2023 for £35 million.

The Hornets are expected to receive 20% of the profit, benefiting from Brighton’s strategic transfer dealings.

This move continues Chelsea’s recent trend of recruiting top talent from the South Coast club, with Pedro becoming the fourth major player to make the switch from Brighton to West London since 2022.

His move follows in the footsteps of Marc Cucurella (£63m), Robert Sanchez (£25m), and Moises Caicedo (£115m), bringing Chelsea’s total Brighton-related spending to a staggering £260 million.

Pedro, who netted 30 goals in 70 appearances for Brighton, is seen by Chelsea as a flexible offensive option.

He is expected to operate either as a central striker or in supporting roles across the front line, offering tactical versatility for Maresca’s evolving squad.

With a chance to lift silverware in just his first month at the club, all eyes will be on Joao Pedro as he begins his journey in blue, starting possibly with a high-stakes Club World Cup debut.

The Premier League has announced the shortlist for the 2024/25 Young Player of the Season award, with eight promising stars vying for recognition after a thrilling campaign.

To qualify for the award, which debuted in the 2019/20 season with Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold as its first recipient, players must have started the season aged 23 or younger.

Chelsea’s Cole Palmer, who scooped the prize last year, returns to the shortlist and could become only the second footballer to defend the title after Phil Foden’s consecutive wins in the 2020/21 and 2021/22 seasons.

The full nominee list includes

Liam Delap (Ipswich Town)

Anthony Elanga (Nottingham Forest)

Ryan Gravenberch (Liverpool)

Dean Huijsen (Bournemouth)

Cole Palmer (Chelsea)

Joao Pedro (Brighton & Hove Albion)

Morgan Rogers (Aston Villa)

William Saliba (Arsenal)

Despite Ipswich Town’s relegation, young striker Liam Delap has made history by becoming the first player from a relegated team to be nominated. Delap impressed with 12 goals and proved his mettle even as his side struggled. His individual brilliance hasn’t gone unnoticed, with top-flight clubs monitoring him closely.

From Nottingham Forest, winger Anthony Elanga earns his place thanks to a productive campaign that saw him deliver 10 assists and score six goals. His contributions were vital for Forest’s survival push, and he continues to cement his status as a consistent creator.

Liverpool’s Ryan Gravenberch, also nominated for the senior Player of the Season accolade, finds himself in contention here as well. The Dutchman has been instrumental in midfield, adapting seamlessly to a deeper role under new manager Arne Slot. His defensive prowess and tactical discipline played a key role in Liverpool’s title push.

Bournemouth’s Dean Huijsen is another standout. The Spanish centre-back, who is reportedly set for a big-money move to Real Madrid, capped off an excellent debut season in England by earning a deserved nomination. His commanding presence at the back has been a highlight for the Cherries.

Chelsea’s Cole Palmer continues to shine after last season’s breakout. While his numbers may not have matched last year’s heights, 15 goals and eight assists remain an impressive return. Only Bruno Fernandes has created more chances than Palmer this season.

Joao Pedro of Brighton has built a reputation as one of the Premier League’s brightest young forwards. The Brazilian, known for both his finishing and creativity, has also emerged as a reliable penalty taker. His performances have significantly increased his market value.

Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers has blossomed under manager Unai Emery. Now a full England international, the 21-year-old midfielder has racked up eight goals and nine assists in what has been a standout campaign. With double digits in sight, Rogers is pushing for elite company.

Arsenal’s William Saliba rounds out the list. Widely praised as one of the league’s most dependable centre-backs, the French international helped marshal the Gunners’ formidable defence. He boasts a league-leading 79.5% success rate in one-on-one duels and was key to the side keeping 12 clean sheets.

With stellar performances across the league, these accolades aim to spotlight the best of the best.

Player of the Month Nominees—November 2024

Eight players from six clubs have been shortlisted, competing to be the fourth different winner this season. October’s Player of the Month, Chris Wood of Nottingham Forest, is absent from this month’s lineup.

1. Matheus Cunha (Wolves)
Cunha had a standout month, registering three goals and three assists in just four games. His efforts were pivotal in lifting Wolves off the bottom of the table, sparking rumors of a potential move to a top club.

2. Bruno Fernandes (Manchester United)
Under interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy, Fernandes shone with two goals and an assist in two games. He also created a league-high 14 chances, cementing his reputation as United’s creative maestro.

3. Ryan Gravenberch (Liverpool)
Gravenberch was ever-present in Liverpool’s perfect November, anchoring the midfield with poise and consistency in every match.

4. Mohamed Salah (Liverpool)
Salah continued his dazzling form, scoring four goals and providing an assist in three matches, underlining his status as one of the league’s most reliable forwards.

5. Martin Odegaard (Arsenal)
Odegaard’s return from injury revitalized Arsenal. The midfielder contributed a goal and two assists in three matches, stabilizing the Gunners’ campaign.

6. Bukayo Saka (Arsenal)
Saka outshone his captain with two goals and a league-high three assists, showcasing his attacking brilliance in a critical period for Arsenal.

7. Joao Pedro (Brighton)
Despite limited minutes, Joao Pedro made an impact with two goals and two assists, propelling Brighton’s impressive season.

Wissa’s three goals in November were integral to Brentford’s high-scoring performances, cementing his importance to the Bees’ attacking lineup.

Hurzeler’s strategic brilliance was on display in Brighton’s comeback win over Manchester City. Brighton ended the month in third place, thanks to his astute leadership.

3. Gary O’Neil (Wolves)
O’Neil orchestrated a turnaround for Wolves, securing two wins and a draw that lifted them off the bottom of the standings.

The Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) has unveiled the six-player shortlist for the 2023/24 Young Player of the Year award. This prestigious award is open to footballers aged 21 and under at the start of the season, with the winner being chosen by votes from active PFA union members.

Bukayo Saka, who won the 2022/23 award, is in the running to defend his title after being nominated again for the following season. Saka, who turned 22 in September 2023, just made the age cut-off by one month.

The Arsenal winger had another stellar season, contributing 16 goals and nine assists in 35 Premier League games as Arsenal finished as runners-up to Manchester City for the second consecutive year.

Manchester United has two players on the shortlist: Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho. Garnacho, already a key member of the first team, registered seven goals and four assists across 36 appearances.

Meanwhile, Mainoo had a breakout season after recovering from an ankle injury, scoring three goals and providing one assist in 24 games from midfield.

Cole Palmer is another strong contender for the award after a remarkable debut season with Chelsea. He delivered 33 goal involvements—22 goals and 11 assists—in just 33 matches, marking him as one of the frontrunners.

Brighton & Hove Albion forward Joao Pedro, one of the two nominees not from a traditional ‘big six’ club, impressed after his summer move from Watford. He played 31 games for the Seagulls, netting nine goals and providing three assists.

The final nominee, Michael Olise, now with Bayern Munich, earned his place on the shortlist following a standout final season with Crystal Palace. Despite playing only 19 games, Olise managed to score ten goals and provide six assists before his move to Germany in July.

The winners of the PFA awards will be announced on August 20.
