Nigerian American artist Jidenna Mobisson has openly acknowledged being a toxic partner in his past relationships. He candidly admitted to negatively impacting many women’s lives by taking away their opportunities for starting a family while they were in a dating relationship.

In the inaugural episode of the What’s Underneath: Masculinity podcast, Jidenna expressed remorse for his past behavior, recognizing the harm he caused to the women he was involved with. Reflecting on his own toxicity, he shared that witnessing other young men replicate similar behavior saddened him.

Despite acknowledging the negative impact he had on those women, Jidenna acknowledged that his experiences with them played a crucial role in his personal growth, emphasizing that they contributed to shaping the person he has become.

He said, “I robbed some women of their baby-making years. Dragging them along, they built me up. Look at me now and look at them.

“If you were a creative, I folded you into my artwork. If you were in my artwork, I gave you a job. I mastered your life. I gave a house, food, everything you need. I protected and provided for you. I did what men are supposed to do.

“I remember different quotes I said like just like really manipulated things to say like, ‘No one is going to love you the way I do.’ Oh my God! I’m ashamed of it.”

In discussing his intentions for future relationships, Jidenna expressed a commitment to change. He vowed to invest the same level of love and care in his personal relationships as he does in his music.

This declaration suggests a conscious effort on his part to prioritize emotional well-being and positive dynamics in his future partnerships, marking a shift away from the toxic patterns he recognized in his past behavior.

He said; “I would get in, I will work as hard at love as I worked in my career”.

Jidenna expressed his gratitude for the vast number of young people that participated in the 2023 Nigerian presidential election by casting their votes.

The US singer congratulated the millions of young Nigerians who voted in the election in a video message posted to his Instagram page and urged them to continue fighting for change in the country’s political scene.

“To all the young people in Naija land, thank you.

“You have tried o, you have really tried. You went out today; epic numbers.

“You made this Election Day historic. Pushing everybody to vote.

“So thank you to all the millions upon millions that went out to vote today,” he said.

The musician also admitted to feeling anxious about the election’s outcome and said he and the rest of the country were looking forward to the results with anticipation.

He gave his supporters and admirers the reassurance that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was counting and uploading the results and that they should, ideally, be made accessible soon.

“I know a lot of us are anxious; I’m anxious, I wish I could have been there. Now, I’m awaiting the results like you.

Yeni Kuti, the eldest child of late Afrobeat pioneer, Fela Kuti has reacted to Mr. P calling the Afrika shrine, local.

You would recall that Mp3bullet.ng reported that Mr. P and Seun Kuti got into a verbal clash on social media over the latter calling Labour Party Presidential candidate, Peter Obi, an opportunist.

Peter Okoye responded by labelling Seun Kuti as a failed musician who is simply drawing attention to himself by riding his father’s celebrity status.

Mr.P even dared Seun to remove the Kuti family name from his name and see whether anyone knew who he was without it.

However, Mr. P seemed to have gone too far when he referred to Fela’s Legacy as the Afrika Shrine, a local hangout where people freely smoke hemp.

10. Oliver Mtukudzi – Zimbabwe

Oliver (Tuku) Mtukudzi has 65 albums under his belt — more than Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston.

It’s a remarkable career stretching back 41 years with songs that have enlivened parties all over the world.

“I never decided to be in the music industry. It was in me. My mother said ‘you are a good singer but you will never surpass your birth cry. Your birth cry was so beautiful’,” says Mtukudzi.

Born on September 22, 1952, in Highfield, a suburb in Harare, Zimbabwe; music runs in his blood. Both his parents were musicians. They met at a choir competition and sang a duet for life. It wasn’t long before he found his voice.

“I made a three-string guitar for myself from a tin around 1969 or early 1970s with the help of a [relative]. I was always playing it. My father didn’t like it and he broke the guitar.”

It wasn’t going to stop him. He made up songs as a child and sang everywhere he could.

“One day, I decided to perform for my parents standing on the table and they enjoyed it so much I didn’t get smacked for standing on the table. My mother noticed I had been standing on the table, two or three days later. That’s how good it was,” he chuckles.

Born Michael Owusu Addo, Sarkodie has racked up millions of views on YouTube for his music with his debut album and first single, Baby, among the favorites.

It was upward movement from then on. Don Jazzy is a multi-award-winning artist, was an MTN brand ambassador, and is running a successful record label that is home to stars like Dr.SID and Tiwa Savage, is in real estate and launched Flobyt, a company that provides free Wi-Fi in Nigeria.

3. Hugh Masekela – South Africa

Born in Witbank, east of Johannesburg, Hugh Masekela is committed to restoring African heritage.

This world-renowned flugelhornist, trumpeter, bandleader, composer, and singer has released more than 43 albums and performed with Marvin Gaye, Dizzy Gillespie, The Byrds, Fela Kuti, Paul Simon, Stevie Wonder, and Miriam Makeba.

“The music I make, I don’t call it my music. It is based on my township and indigenous rural roots in South Africa.

That’s what brought me fame all over the world,” he says. At the age of 14, he got his first trumpet and developed his signature sound in the late 1950s, melding jazz with African music.

His first album, Trumpet Africaine, was released in 1962.

The extended play is an Afrocentric blend between R&B, hip-hop, and house sounds, that will have you dancing to the beat.

According to KDDO, it was at the height of the pandemic, having to be locked down and with movement grounded for several weeks long that he realized the need to cherish every moment we’ve got and create good memories every chance we get.

On the 20th of October, Protesters in Lekki Tollgate were attacked by uniformed men leading to casualties.

This led to outrage from not just Nigerians themselves but from Foreign brands. Foreign Artists also spoke about the massacre.
