Davido has reportedly submitted his latest album, ORIADÉ, alongside several songs for consideration at the 2027 Grammy Awards, with entries spanning major album and song categories, African music and music videos.

Davido Submits ‘ORIADÉ,’ ‘B4 B4’ and More for 2027 Grammy Awards

The reported submissions, shared by the Grammy-focused account The Grammy Guru, include the categories Album of the Year, Record of the Year, and Song of the Year, as well as Best Global Music Album, Best African Music Performance, and Best Music Video.

At the centre of the entries is ORIADÉ, which has reportedly been submitted in four categories: Album of the Year, Best Global Music Album, Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical, and Best Album Cover. The submissions cover both the album’s music and its technical and visual presentation.

Davido’s collaboration with Mayorkun and FOLA, “B4 B4,” is also among the reported entries. The song has been submitted for Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Best African Music Performance, placing it among the projects seeking recognition across multiple categories.

Another entry is “Nakupenda,” featuring TxC, Zlatan, Shoday, Scotts Maphuma and Al Xapo. The collaboration has reportedly been submitted for Song of the Year and Best African Music Performance, bringing together artists from different corners of the African music scene.

Davido’s other reported submissions include “Le Show,” featuring Ayra Starr and French Montana, for Best African Music Performance. Meanwhile, the music video for “I Know Who I Be,” featuring JAZZWRLD and GL_Ceejay, has reportedly been entered in the Best Music Video category.

While the range of submissions places Davido’s work across several areas of Grammy consideration, it is important to distinguish entries from official nominations. Submitting a song or album does not guarantee a nomination, as the Recording Academy’s voting process determines which works advance to the final list.

For now, the reported entries add Davido to the list of Nigerian artists whose work is being put forward for consideration ahead of the 2027 Grammy Awards, scheduled for February 7, 2027.

According to information shared by @TheGrammyGuru, the singer has put forward her album APOP* and several tracks for consideration, including collaborations with international acts such as Zara Larsson, Future, Travis Scott and Vybz Kartel.

Leading the reported entries is “Chanel,” submitted for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Pop Solo Performance, and Best Music Video. The song’s placement across four categories could give it multiple routes to recognition if it advances through the Recording Academy’s voting process.

Tyla’s album APOP* has also reportedly been submitted for Album of the Year, Best Pop Vocal Album, Best Engineered Album and Best Album Cover. The entries extend beyond the project’s music to include its technical production and visual presentation.

Elsewhere, “That Girl” is in contention for Best Pop Solo Performance, while “She Did It Again,” featuring Zara Larsson, has been submitted for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. “Kiss” is also being considered for Best Dance Pop Recording.

The singer’s reported R&B entries include “Right Now,” submitted for both Best R&B Solo Performance and Best R&B Song. In the Best African Music Performance category, she has entries for “I Don’t Care” featuring Babalwa M, “Memories” featuring Lojay, and “Body Go” featuring MOLIY.

Tyla’s submissions also reach into rap, with “Game Time,” featuring Future and FIFA Sound, reportedly entered for Best Melodic Rap Performance and Best Rap Song. Meanwhile, “PBT,” featuring Travis Scott and Vybz Kartel, has been submitted for Best Music Video.

The range of entries reflects the different sounds and collaborations associated with Tyla’s music, alongside her continued connections with artists across international markets.

However, submissions do not automatically translate into Grammy nominations. They are entries for consideration, with the Recording Academy’s voting process determining which works make the final nominee list. The reported entries should therefore be distinguished from the official nominations.

From the rapid rise of street-pop newcomer Destiny Boy to Burna Boy’s high-profile World Cup appearances with Shakira, Nigerian music fans kept both homegrown and international stories firmly in the spotlight.

Here are five music-related topics that attracted significant search interest in Nigeria during the first half of 2026.

1. Destiny Boy

Destiny Boy emerged as one of the year’s most talked-about rising acts, with his growing profile generating widespread curiosity among Nigerian music fans.

Search interest around the street-pop singer focused on his background, music, latest releases, collaborations and rapid career development. His growing visibility also reflects the continued ability of viral street-pop acts to capture national attention and turn online buzz into mainstream recognition.

2. Grammy Awards 2026

The 68th Grammy Awards also commanded strong attention from Nigerian audiences, particularly with African music continuing to make its presence felt on one of the world’s biggest music stages.

Burna Boy was among the Nigerian artists attracting attention around the ceremony, while Bad Bunny’s historic achievements added another layer to the global conversation. The awards generated interest in nominees, winners, performances and the growing international footprint of African music.

3. Shakira and Burna Boy’s World Cup Performances

Burna Boy and Shakira became another major search trend after joining forces for the FIFA World Cup.

Their collaboration on the tournament’s official anthem, Dai Dai, and their subsequent performances gave Nigerian fans plenty to follow. From the opening celebrations to their appearance during the tournament’s headline final show, the two global stars became central figures in one of the biggest entertainment stories of the year.

4. Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl Halftime Show

Bad Bunny’s global influence extended into Nigeria, with his Super Bowl halftime performance becoming another major music-related search topic.

The Puerto Rican superstar’s appearance generated attention beyond the United States, reflecting the increasingly international reach of Latin music. His continued success across streaming platforms, charts and major award ceremonies further strengthened his position as one of the biggest global music figures of the year.

5. Wizkid & Asake’s Jogodo

Wizkid and Asake’s Jogodo also emerged as a major point of interest for Nigerian music fans.

Released as the lead single from their joint project REAL, Vol. 1, the record quickly became one of the standout Nigerian releases of 2026, generating conversations around its commercial performance, streaming numbers, lyrics, and the chemistry between both artists.

Its success further fuelled interest in the wider Wizkid and Asake collaboration, making Jogodo one of the most searched Nigerian music releases of the year so far.

The search trends highlight the wide range of music stories capturing Nigerian attention in 2026. While emerging local stars continue to command interest, Nigerian audiences are equally engaged with major global events and international artists.

From Destiny Boy’s breakthrough to Wizkid and Asake’s collaboration, and from the Grammys to the World Cup and Super Bowl, the first half of 2026 has once again shown how strongly music shapes Nigeria’s online culture.

The Recording Academy has announced a series of significant updates ahead of the 69th Grammy Awards, unveiling five brand-new categories alongside several revisions to voting procedures and eligibility requirements.

The changes, which will take effect for the 2027 edition of the prestigious awards ceremony scheduled for February 7, reflect the Academy’s efforts to better represent the evolving global music landscape and recognize a broader range of artistic contributions.

Five New Grammy Categories Added

Among the most notable developments is the introduction of five new award categories spanning multiple genres and regions.

The newly created categories are:

Best Asian Pop Music Performance – Recognising outstanding performances in Asian pop genres, including K-pop, J-pop, C-pop, and songs featuring one or more Asian languages.

Best R&B Collaboration or Duo/Group Performance – Honouring exceptional collaborative performances within contemporary R&B music.

Best Traditional Pop Vocal Performance – Celebrating excellence in traditional pop recordings distinct from modern mainstream pop.

Best Traditional Folk Album – Recognising outstanding traditional folk projects. As part of this change, the existing Best Folk Album category has been renamed Best Contemporary Folk Album.

Best Latin Song – Awarded to songwriters of newly written Latin songs featuring at least 51 percent Spanish-language lyrics.

According to Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr., the additions are designed to reflect the continued expansion and increasing diversity of the international music industry.

Major Voting Reforms Introduced

Beyond the new categories, the Academy has also approved several adjustments to its voting structure.

A new initiative known as Ballot Plus will allow eligible voting members with expertise across multiple genres to vote in up to 15 peer-related categories. This replaces the previous 10/3 voting model for qualified participants and is expected to provide broader representation across specialised music fields.

Best New Artist Eligibility Expanded

The Academy has also relaxed eligibility restrictions for the highly coveted Best New Artist category.

Artists can now be submitted a maximum of four times before becoming ineligible, an increase from the previous limit of three submissions.

Album Qualification Rules Updated

Another notable revision concerns album eligibility requirements.

Projects will now need to contain 66 percent newly recorded material to qualify, down from the previous 75 percent threshold. The adjustment is expected to accommodate a wider range of creative projects and release formats.

Digital-Only Releases Gain Recognition

In a move reflecting modern consumption habits, internet-exclusive releases will now be eligible for consideration in the Best Album Notes and Best Historical Album categories, provided they include the required supporting materials with their commercial download.

Greater Recognition for Songwriters and Composers

The Academy has also expanded recognition for songwriters and composers. Going forward, writers of newly created material on winning albums across most genre album categories will receive Grammy statuettes and achievement certificates, placing them alongside producers and engineers who have traditionally been recognised for their contributions.

The latest changes signal another step in the Grammys’ ongoing evolution as the organisation adapts to shifts in music creation, distribution, and global audience engagement. With new categories, broader eligibility standards, and increased recognition for creatives behind the scenes, the 2027 ceremony is set to be one of the most inclusive editions in the award show’s history.

The 69th annual Grammy Awards ceremony is scheduled to be held on February 7, 2027, at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.

One of the biggest changes announced for the upcoming edition is the Grammys’ move to ABC — marking the first time since 1972 that the ceremony will air on the network.

The show will also be streamed on Disney+ and Hulu, signalling what the Recording Academy described as “a new home and a bold new chapter” for the awards.

For artists hoping to secure nominations, the eligibility window has now been confirmed. Only projects released between August 31, 2025, and August 28, 2026, will qualify for consideration at the 2027 Grammys.

Another major date to watch is November 16, 2026, when the official nominations will be announced. That reveal is expected to shape conversations across the global music industry, especially as Afrobeats, pop, hip-hop, R&B, and international categories continue to expand in global relevance.

Voting for the awards will happen in two phases. First-round voting is set for October 12 to October 22, 2026, allowing Recording Academy members to decide the final nominees across categories.

The final round of voting will then run from December 10, 2026, through January 7, 2027, before winners are announced live during the February ceremony.

As conversations from the awards ceremony continued to trend on social media, fresh data from X (formerly Twitter) showed that the Nigerian hitmaker was among the Top Mentioned Artists at the Grammys. Davido’s name featured prominently alongside global superstars such as Bad Bunny and Lady Gaga, underscoring just how much attention he commanded throughout the event.

While chart-topping records like “APT.” by ROSÉ and Bruno Mars dominated streaming conversations, Davido dominated the timeline. From his red-carpet appearance to his presence inside the Crypto.com Arena, fans and critics alike kept his name in circulation all night long.

Reacting in his signature laid-back style, the Unavailable crooner chose humour over hype. Taking to social media, Davido posted, “E FIMILE JARE KILODE!”

The Yoruba expression, loosely translated as “Please, leave me alone, what’s the issue?”, quickly caught on online. For many fans, the message perfectly captured Davido’s state of mind: calm, unbothered, and focused on peace rather than pressure.

E FIMILE JARE KILODE 😅😩😃 https://t.co/EKilnMEIHC

The post has since gone viral, with members of the 30BG fanbase applauding his carefree attitude in the middle of intense global attention.

Many noted that even without a Grammy win, Davido still managed to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with international heavyweights, including Bad Bunny, who made history with the first Spanish-language Album of the Year win.

Once again, Davido proved that beyond awards, influence is measured by presence and at the 2026 Grammys, his presence was impossible to ignore.

On February 2, 2026, the DMW boss finally broke his silence after missing out on the Best African Music Performance award, marking his third Grammy nomination without a win.

The category was claimed by Tyla, whose hit song “Push 2 Start” off her album Tyla edged out other strong contenders, including Ayra Starr and Wizkid’s “Gimme Dat,” Burna Boy’s “Love,” Davido and Omah Lay’s “With You,” and Eddy Kenzo & Mehran Matin’s “Hope & Love.”

Davido attended the star-studded ceremony alongside his wife, Chioma Adeleke; his siblings, Sharon Adeleke and Adewale Adeleke; his manager, Asa Asika; his cousin, Tunji Adeleke, and other close associates, holding on to hope for a historic win.

However, after the ceremony, the singer shared a heartfelt moment with fans on Instagram, posting elegant photos with his family and revealing that he almost skipped the event altogether.

“I said baby listen we lost again let’s not go,” Davido wrote, referring to a private conversation with his wife. According to him, Chioma encouraged him to rise above disappointment, telling him, “Be humble in victory and gracious in defeat.” He ended the caption simply: “We outside.”

Afrobeats superstar Davido has finally spoken out following his loss at the 68th Grammy Awards, offering fans a rare glimpse into the emotions that followed the high-profile ceremony and explaining why he still chose to attend the event.

In what has become a moment of honesty mixed with quiet strength, the singer addressed the outcome of the 68th Annual Grammy Awards, where expectations were high but the coveted trophy slipped away.

Rather than dwell on disappointment, Davido turned the moment into a lesson on grace, leaning on the support of his wife, Chioma Rowland.

Taking to Instagram after the ceremony, the award-winning artist shared a set of elegant photos of himself and Chioma, both dressed in regal outfits befitting the global stage. While the images drew admiration, it was Davido’s heartfelt caption that truly resonated with fans.

The “Timeless” hitmaker revealed that he briefly considered boycotting the ceremony altogether after learning he would not be winning on the night. “I said baby listen we lost let’s not go,” Davido wrote, opening up about his initial reaction.

He then highlighted Chioma’s calming influence, quoting her words that quickly changed his mindset: “She said be humble in victory and gracious in defeat. We outside.”

The post quickly went viral, drawing an outpouring of praise from fans, members of the 30BG fanbase, and fellow musicians, many of whom applauded Chioma’s wisdom and Davido’s openness in sharing such a personal moment.

By choosing to attend the ceremony despite the loss, Davido once again underscored his role as one of Afrobeats’ leading figures on the global stage.

For many observers, the moment went beyond awards, serving as a reminder that celebrating African music and its growing influence sometimes matters more than individual trophies.

The Grammy ceremony took place on February 1, 2026, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California. It proved to be a tough night for Nigerian artists, as South African star Tyla clinched her second Grammy in the Best African Music Performance category.

Tyla’s hit record “Push 2 Start” from her album Tyla edged out stiff competition, including Ayra Starr and Wizkid’s “Gimme Dat,” Burna Boy’s “Love,” Davido and Omah Lay’s “With You,” and Eddy Kenzo and Mehran Matin’s “Hope & Love.”

Reacting to the loss, Teni, known for her comic personality and outspoken nature, took to her Instagram page on February 2, 2026, to vent her frustration humorously, particularly over Davido’s defeat. The singer has often spoken openly about how supportive Davido has been to her over the years.

In recent weeks, Teni made headlines after publicly begging Davido for his Lamborghini to use in a music video, a request he eventually granted. She also jokingly appealed to Grammy winner Burna Boy for his Ferrari, though that request is yet to receive a response.

Clearly amused yet exasperated by the Grammy outcome, Teni joked that had she attended the award ceremony, she might have ended up being arrested.

She also revealed that she is currently in Paris, France, for a show, adding that her manager had reminded her they needed money. With Davido and Burna Boy both losing out at the Grammys, she wondered aloud who would now come to her rescue.

She accompanied her video post with the caption:
“DEM DON ROB MY HELPER!!!!!!!! GRAMMY WHYYYYY!!!! 😫😫😫🥹🥹🥹😢😢😢😢😢😢😢.”

Teni’s reaction quickly caught the attention of fans online, many of whom praised her humour while echoing disappointment over Nigeria’s Grammy shutout on the night.

While addressing the audience on the night, the comedian made a sarcastic reference to Minaj’s perceived support for former U.S. President Donald Trump, joking that she could not attend the event because she was needed at the White House. The comment, though brief, appeared to strike a nerve with the rapper.

Shortly after the ceremony, Nicki Minaj took to her X (formerly Twitter) account, where she posted a series of explosive messages aimed at Trevor Noah. In her posts, she made several allegations, including claims about his sexuality.

She accused the comedian of refusing to “come out of the closet,” a phrase commonly used to describe someone who is believed to be hiding their sexual orientation.

In one of her posts, she wrote:
“Your favorite artist has been practicing rituals in a satanic cult where they take babies from other countries & mutilate & kill them as a form of a blood sacrifice to their God. You see, when your master is Satan, you must constantly shed blood. However, the JIG IS UP. Trevor refuses to come out the closet when everyone in the industry knows his boyfriend. Allegedly,” she wrote.

The comments have since sparked widespread reactions online, with fans and critics debating the appropriateness of Trevor Noah’s joke as well as the nature and tone of Nicki Minaj’s response. As of now, neither the Grammys nor Trevor Noah has publicly responded to her claims.
