The long-running rift within the Okoye family took another dramatic turn as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) revealed that it does not have the evidence needed to back up the fraud allegations levelled against music executive Jude Okoye by his younger brother and singer, Peter Okoye.

What began as a private family feud has now stretched into a full-blown legal battle, with both sides standing firm on their claims. Peter had accused Jude, who once managed the iconic P-Square duo, of diverting funds meant for the group into accounts connected to him.

Following the allegations, Jude spent more than two months in EFCC custody before securing bail as the case moved into court.

But during a hearing at the Lagos State Special Offences Court, Ikeja, on Friday, November 28, 2025, the narrative shifted. EFCC counsel Mohammed Bashir informed the court that the agency had no documents or financial records that could prove Jude siphoned $800,000 from the group’s earnings. According to Bashir, the burden of proof now rests squarely on Peter, as the EFCC cannot tender evidence it does not have.

The case itself traces back to 2024, when Jude and his company, Northside Music Limited, were accused of converting funds paid to P-Square for digital music distribution and publishing.

The EFCC had claimed that $767,544.15, part of a $1 million and £34,000 payment from Lex Records Limited, was diverted in a way that deprived Peter of his rightful share. Jude eventually secured bail on March 6, 2025, with a bond set at ₦50 million.

While the legal drama unfolds in courtrooms, its emotional impact has rippled through the Okoye family. Peter’s twin brother, Paul Okoye, has publicly aligned himself with Jude, going as far as unfollowing Peter on social media. Their once unstoppable musical chemistry has frozen, and the twins have not worked together in years.

Even their homes are not untouched by the tension. Peter’s wife, Lola, has been seen spending time with Paul’s former wife, Anita Okoye, a move that many interpret as a subtle statement amid the family divide.

• Jude Okoye faces fresh legal battle over multi-million dollar allegations

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has leveled new allegations against Jude Okoye, former manager of the defunct music duo P-Square, accusing him of misappropriating over $1 million and £34,000.

Okoye appeared before the Lagos State Special Offenses Court in Ikeja on Tuesday, March 4. Prosecutors claimed he and his company, Northside Music Limited, unlawfully diverted funds intended for singer Peter Okoye.

According to EFCC prosecutor Mohammed Bashiru, Okoye allegedly misappropriated $767,544.15 received from Lex Records Limited for digital distribution and publishing royalties.

Additionally, he was accused of converting £34,537.59 from the same source, along with $133,566.49 from Kobalt Music and $118,652.23 from Mtech Limited between 2016 and 2023.

“These funds were meant for music royalties, yet the defendant diverted them for personal use, denying Peter Okoye his rightful earnings,” Bashiru asserted in court. The EFCC argues that these actions contravene Sections 278 and 285 of the Lagos State Criminal Laws, 2011.

This new development follows Okoye’s recent bail grant by the Federal High Court on a separate seven-count charge. The court had set bail at ₦100 million, with the condition of two sureties of equal value.

Okoye has pleaded not guilty to the latest charges, and his legal counsel, Clement Onwuenwunor (SAN), revealed that a bail application had been submitted on February 27, 2025.

Onwuenwunor dismissed the allegations as unfounded, vowing to challenge them in court. “We will demonstrate in trial that these charges lack merit and should not have been brought forward,” he affirmed, expressing confidence in Okoye’s defense as the case proceeds.

The management of Nigerian singer Peter Okoye, popularly known as Mr. P, has refuted claims that he played a role in his elder brother Jude Okoye’s legal troubles with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Paul Okoye, Peter’s twin brother and former music partner in the now defunct P-Square group, had accused him of being responsible for Jude’s predicament. Speaking to journalists on Friday at the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, Paul blamed Peter for Jude’s ongoing legal battle.

“It is not about supporting him because I know the truth. And the truth is, unfortunately, the way the journalists are making it look like he is a fraud. Let’s call a spade a spade, Peter is the one putting Jude to this thing, simple. It is Peter that is doing this, putting him in prison, and I’m here to bring him out,” Paul stated.

Jude Okoye is facing allegations of ₦1.38 billion fraud leveled against him by the EFCC. Following his arraignment on Friday, he was remanded in prison pending his bail hearing in March.

However, in a swift response, Peter’s manager, Emem Kush, dismissed Paul’s claims, insisting that Peter had no involvement in the case.

“I don’t know who Peter is on this issue. And I don’t think he has any comment on this issue. The case is between the EFCC, based on their investigation, and Jude Okoye. I don’t see how Peter Okoye has anything to do with it,” Emem Kush said.

She further clarified that the EFCC’s case was based on financial transactions involving Jude’s company and had nothing to do with Peter.

“We have no comment on this matter. Peter didn’t drag anybody to the EFCC. The petition was against the company that has been receiving funds on his behalf. And he knew nothing about it. Don’t mix up issues, and let’s not create issues where they are not,” she added.

When asked if there were any conditions tied to the case, Emem Kush directed inquiries to the anti-graft agency.

“The EFCC was the one that received all of this, so I think it’s best to speak to them to know the facts of the case and their findings. I don’t represent the EFCC. I’m not a spokesman for the EFCC. I’m not a spokesman for either party, so I can’t tell you,” she concluded.

The feud among the Okoye brothers dates back to 2015 when internal conflicts within P-Square became public. By 2017, the duo officially split and embarked on solo careers. In 2022, they reunited, releasing songs like ‘Jaiye‘ and ‘Find Somebody,‘ and even performing together at major events.

However, their reconciliation was short-lived. In August 2024, Paul confirmed on City FM radio that they had parted ways again.

During the interview, he alleged that Peter had petitioned both him and Jude to the EFCC, leading to their questioning by the anti-graft agency.

Peter, in his response, denied targeting Paul but maintained that his petition was aimed at exposing the betrayal he suffered at the hands of Jude and his wife, Ifeoma.

With Jude’s legal battle now in full swing, the rift between the Okoye brothers appears far from over.

In a detailed statement shared on his Instagram page, Peter Okoye firmly denied ever petitioning the EFCC against his brother.
