When does the 2024/25 Champions League begin?

The dates for each fixture will not be confirmed until Saturday, but UEFA has revealed when each matchday will take place. Whereas the previous format saw the group stage wrapped up by Christmas, the new Swiss model will take the league phase to the end of January.

Rasmus Hojlund of Atalanta has been officially signed by Manchester United for a rumoured sum of £72 million ($92 million).

Hojlund flew to Manchester on Tuesday before completing a medical at Carrington and has now been officially unveiled as a United player.

The 20-year-old striker has signed a five-year deal that will keep him at Old Trafford through at least 2028, with an additional year’s extension option held by the Red Devils.

Hojlund reportedly cost United £62 million ($79 million) upfront, with the remaining £8 million to be paid in performance-based add-ons.

Hojlund is now linking up with Christian Eriksen at club level, and his Denmark team-mate gave him a glowing endorsement before his arrival in England. “He’s a strong number nine,” Eriksen told PA Sport. “He’s developed a lot in the last year from when I first saw him with the national team (to) a year’s time, so, yeah, he’s a very good player.”

Hojund initially moved to Atalanta from Sturm Graz in August of last year for €17 million (£15 million/$19 million), and in his lone season with the Italian club, he made 34 appearances in all competitions.

Erik ten Hag has taken a major risk by trusting the inexperienced kid to become United’s first-choice centre-forward despite the fact that he only managed to score a meager total of 10 goals for Atalanta.

The United boss has been publicly pushing for the club to sign a new No.9 for months, and after the club backed off Harry Kane due to Tottenham’s lofty £100m ($128m) valuation, Hojlund emerged as his top target.

Hojlund, who has six caps and six goals for Denmark, will look to make his United debut in a competitive game on August 14 when United’s 2023-24 Premier League season gets underway away at Wolves.
