Nigerian street pop legend Terry G has announced his retirement from the music industry, which is a very sad development for his devoted fan base. His distinctive sound and upbeat live shows will now be remembered.

Terry G, whose true name is Gabriel Oche Amanyi, gained popularity in the late 2000s with his upbeat dancehall/gyration sound that conjured up images of white garment church music.

Renowned for his quirky demeanor and popular songs like “Akpako Master” and “Free Madness,” Terry G established himself in the vibrant Nigerian music industry.

The musician announced his retirement on Instagram, thanking his followers for their steadfast support throughout the course of his career.

“It’s been a journey” Terry G captioned the heartfelt video in which he announced he was quitting music.

Terry G made his declaration following a recent video in which he reminded people that, while in his heyday, he helped several musicians score hit songs and called out artists who refused to respond to his messages.

Terry G has continuously pushed the limits of musical expression throughout his career. He combined dancehall with indigenous Nigerian sounds to create a distinctive sound that was dynamic.

As Terry G says goodbye to the music business, his admirers are optimistic that his influence on Nigerian music and his timeless tunes will live on. The Street Hop icon leaves behind a musical legacy that will endure for years to come as one chapter comes to an end.
