Spyro Rejects Pressure to Drop ‘Jesus Boy’ Brand, Says Faith Will Open Doors

Nigerian singer Oludipe Oluwasanmi David, popularly known as Spyro, has reaffirmed his commitment to openly proclaiming his Christian faith, despite pressure from within his own team to tone down the religious branding of his career.
In an emotional Instagram post, the Who Is Your Guy crooner recounted the challenges he faced after leaving his former record label in 2019 to start his own.
He revealed that the journey began with bank and personal loans, without a single kobo of external financial support.
“I left the label I was signed to in 2019 to start mine. We took bank and personal loans to kick start. And from then till now there has been no form of external financial support from no one,” Spyro explained.
However, as his independent career grew, some members of his team urged him to abandon his “JESUS BOY” brand and remove the “Christ Ambassador” tag from his profile, arguing that it could limit his commercial opportunities in the music industry.
Spyro said the request led to a heated confrontation.
“I will rather DIE than remove Jesus from my profile. Even though I understood where they were coming from… they felt associating with Jesus limits me and it doesn’t look lucrative,” he said.
One suggestion to replace “JESUS BOY” with the broader term “Child of God” was also rejected.
“I said NO again and told them the Jesus that I proclaim will make a way for me,” he affirmed.
Spyro noted that his decision to stay true to his faith has been vindicated. While many artists are currently battling a dry spell with no shows or brand deals, he said his career remains in a “very good place.”
“Recently one of the team mates called and said to me, ‘A lot of artistes are suffering now, no deals, no shows but you are in a very good place and I am proud of you,’” he added.
The singer’s stance underscores the struggle many entertainers face in balancing commercial viability with personal convictions a tension Spyro says he has no intention of resolving at the expense of his beliefs.
