Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Spyro has reflected on a challenging period in his career that followed what many assumed was a breakthrough moment—his 2018 remix of Funke featuring superstar Davido and singer Mayorkun.

In a recent interview with Hiptv, Spyro shared that, contrary to expectations, the collaboration didn’t catapult him into lasting fame as he’d hoped. Instead, it marked the beginning of a difficult chapter.

“At the time, I genuinely believed my life was about to change,” Spyro revealed. “The song blew up, and I thought that was it—my big moment. But shortly after, everything just went quiet again.”

The artist went on to describe the emotional toll of the experience, recounting how the momentum faded and he eventually lost contact with his collaborators.

“I went from sharing studio time and energy with Davido and Mayorkun to suddenly not even getting my calls returned,” he said. “I remember sitting alone on the staircase, just crying. It was hard, especially knowing I had family depending on me.”

Despite the setback, Spyro’s candid story is a reminder of the unpredictable nature of the music industry—and the resilience required to keep going when the spotlight dims.
