Spyro laments the high cost of being a celebrity in Lagos
Popular Nigerian artist Spyro has opened up about the overwhelming demands of being a celebrity in Lagos, describing the experience as mentally and financially exhausting.
The singer, famed for his chart-topping hit ‘Who’s Your Guy,’ shared his struggles on Instagram, shedding light on the challenges of constantly being expected to provide financial assistance.
Spyro disclosed that he spends at least ₦100,000 every time he steps out of his home and estimates his annual expenses to average around ₦15 million. According to him, the expectations placed on celebrities are immense, with little consideration for their well-being.
“In this celebrity life, everyone wants to take from you, but nobody thinks about your well-being or offers to give back,” Spyro lamented.
The singer recounted a recent incident where a man insulted him for failing to provide immediate financial support. Spyro explained that he had promised to help the man the next day, but was unable to meet the demand at that moment.
He wrote, “If I enter a restaurant, billings go dey wait me outside, I enter church, same thing… Enter estate, same, carry phone enter online, na same same.”
In his post, Spyro extended a note of solidarity to his colleagues in the entertainment industry, whom he described as the real MVPs for enduring similar challenges.
The singer’s candid reflections have sparked conversations online about the pressure faced by Nigerian celebrities and the often-overlooked human side of fame.
