Spyro shares why he was stopped from dropping his collaboration with Davido
In an interview with ‘Echo Room,‘ Spyro shared that he had been preparing to release a remix of his hit single ‘Billing‘ featuring Davido but was ultimately stopped from putting out the track.
According to Spyro, Davido’s manager, Asa Asika, blocked the release because, at the time, Davido was involved in numerous collaborations and was also gearing up to drop a new album.
‘David was on the remix of Billing. We wanted to release it as the original, but some people prevented it from happening,” Spyro explained.
The singer expressed gratitude to musician and blogger Tunde Ednut, who played a crucial role in facilitating the collaboration.
“As I was reaching out to David, Tunde Ednut was also calling him to make it happen,” Spyro said.
Despite his efforts, including a personal visit to Davido’s home to resolve the matter, Spyro revealed that the release was ultimately scrapped due to external influences.
He attributed the decision to his reluctance to distribute the record through The Plug, a company co-owned by Tobi Mohammed, Bizzle Osikoya, and Davido’s manager, Asa Asika.
Spyro mentioned that Asa Asika’s name repeatedly came up as the individual behind the move to halt the song’s release.
“It was very painful for me and one of the reasons I almost lost hope,” Spyro admitted, describing how the decision deprived him of the chance to achieve a major hit.
