Afrobeats Boom: Rema, Ayra Starr, and CKay Lead Streaming Surge in Latin America

Afrobeats is experiencing explosive growth across Latin America, and Nigerian stars Rema, Ayra Starr, and CKay are at the forefront of this cultural wave.
According to new data released by Spotify on Monday, September 22, 2025, the trio occupy the top three spots on the list of most-streamed Afrobeats artists in the region, followed closely by global powerhouses Burna Boy and Wizkid.
The figures underline the genre’s rapid expansion. Overall, Afrobeats streams in Latin America have risen by more than 180% year-on-year. Countries such as Brazil have posted a 500% increase since 2020, while Argentina and Mexico have each seen growth of over 400% in the last five years.

Analysts attribute this surge to Afrobeats’ irresistible dance rhythms and the strategic embrace of cross-continental collaborations. Rema’s global smash Calm Down with Selena Gomez remains a defining crossover moment.
At the same time, Ayra Starr made history with Santana, her collaboration with Puerto Rican star Rauw Alejandro and producer Rvssian, which earned her the first-ever Latin Diamond certification from the RIAA for an Afrobeats act.
The momentum is being amplified through Spotify’s “Afrobeats: Culture in Motion” project, which emphasizes how the genre is not only dominating playlists but also bridging cultures. With African influences long woven into Latin American music traditions, Afrobeats has found a natural resonance in the region.
For listeners, curated playlists such as AFROBEAT ALL TIME BEST (25, 24, 23) featuring Rema, Ayra Starr, Wizkid, Burna Boy, Fireboy DML, Asake, Tems, and Tyla offer a snapshot of the artists powering this global movement.
