The custody tussle between music star Davido and Sophia Momodu has taken a dramatic turn, with the spotlight now shifting from the courtroom to social media timelines.

Punuka Attorneys & Solicitors, the legal representatives of Sophia Momodu, have accused the Afrobeats singer of fuelling online harassment against one of their partners following recent proceedings in the case involving the couple’s daughter, Imade.

The matter, which is still before a Lagos court, centres on the child’s custody arrangements. Although Davido later disclosed that he was stepping back from the suit, clarifying that he was not pursuing sole custody but rather a structured co-parenting framework, the exchanges that followed the hearing have stirred fresh controversy.

During his reaction online, Davido expressed displeasure over what transpired in court, particularly referencing comments made by Sophia’s counsel, Mrs Ebelechukwu Egeonu Enedah.

He wrote that while he felt confident about his legal footing, things crossed a line when, in his words, “brought out her last card, my deceased son. That’s a no no!”

In a separate post, the singer mistakenly tagged gospel artiste Tosin Bee while sharing the name and social media details of the lawyer, a move that quickly drew heavy traffic and attention to her profile.

Responding firmly, Punuka Attorneys released a statement condemning what it described as inflammatory remarks and attempts to intimidate its partner outside the courtroom. The firm stressed that the dispute remains strictly within the jurisdiction of the court.

“Our attention has been drawn to all manner of inflammatory public statements chiefly engineered by a Nigerian Afrobeat artiste, via social media, directed at our Partner, Mrs Ebelechukwu Egeonu Enedah arising from her professional conduct in a custody matter presently pending before a court of competent jurisdiction in Lagos State,” the statement reads.

“That matter is sub judice. It will be decided by the court alone, on evidence and law, and no amount of media commentary will sway that process or our approach to the case. In keeping with the highest professional conduct, no statements on the substance of the case will be issued by us.

“However, if legal practitioners are to be threatened, intimidated, or exposed to harassment outside the courtroom for asking questions, testing evidence, or discharging their professional duty to their clients, then the very foundation of justice is imperiled. The administration of justice depends upon fearless advocacy.

“We call upon the Nigerian Bar Association and lawyers globally to rise up in one voice to condemn this aberration and gross violation of our profession.”

The firm further described the situation as involving “threat, intimidation, or exposure to harassment,” urging the Nigerian Bar Association to take a stand in defence of professional legal practice.

For now, despite the social media fireworks and public statements from both camps, the custody case remains before the court. As the legal process unfolds, observers say the final word will rest not on Instagram posts, but on judicial pronouncement.
