Wizkid is still the future of Afrobeats – Singer, Skiibii
Renowned singer Abbey Toyyib Elias, professionally known as Skiibii, has expressed his belief that award-winning artist Wizkid remains the ‘future’ of Afrobeats.
Skiibii declared Wizkid, the 33-year-old ‘Essence’ crooner, as the future of Nigerian music, emphasizing this sentiment despite Wizkid’s 15-year presence in the industry.
The statement was made on Friday, December 22, as Skiibii reacted to Wizkid’s latest project, ‘Soundman 2.’ Skiibii took to his Instagram story, sharing a screenshot of Wizkid’s extended play and tagging the Starboy Entertainment founder.
Skiibii’s acknowledgment underscores Wizkid’s enduring influence and impact on the Nigerian music scene, positioning him as a trailblazer and a significant force shaping the future of Afrobeats.
Skiibii wrote: “@wizkidayo person wey don do like 15 years and still the future.”
In other news, Skiibii has set the record straight by revealing that he has never asked any artist for features, dispelling the misconception that he begged Davido to collaborate on his song.
According to Skiibii, it was actually the DMW boss, Davido, who reached out to him via Instagram DM to express interest in jumping on the remix of Skiibii’s hit song, “Baddest Boy.” This revelation was made during an interview with Kim Oprah on Hip TV’s “Trending.”
Skiibii further emphasized that he has never requested features from any of his fellow artists. He discussed his collaborations with Kizz Daniel and Reekado Banks, explaining the reasons that led to his decision to work with them.
