Skales says Burna Boy is nobody’s mate, ask trolls to stop the disrespect

Nigerian Afrobeats singer Skales has come out strongly to defend Grammy-winning artist Burna Boy amid online criticism surrounding his decision to perform their collaborative track, Temper (Remix), during a recent concert.
Taking to his X (formerly Twitter) account on April 30, 2025, Skales called for an end to the online attacks directed at Burna Boy, making it clear that there is no bad blood between them and expressing deep respect for his fellow artist.
“Pls and pls put some respect on burnas name … Burna is not anybody’s mate including me … I’ve been seeing some b.s fly around that is made up .. Burna never said that … leave that man alone .. much respect to Odg,” Skales posted.
His statement comes in the wake of Burna Boy’s headlining performance at the Jazz Fest in New Orleans, where he performed his verse from their 2016 collaboration Temper (Remix).
While some social media users suggested that Burna’s decision to include the track was motivated by Skales’ recent return to commercial relevance, Skales dismissed those claims, stressing that the performance should be viewed with appreciation, not suspicion.
The resurgence in Skales’ popularity, thanks in part to his viral hit Shake Body finding new life on TikTok, appears to have reignited attention around his discography.
However, Burna Boy has consistently featured Temper (Remix) in his live sets over the years, making the sudden scrutiny appear misplaced.

Skales’ public message not only underscores his respect for Burna Boy but also aims to put an end to divisive fan narratives that pit artists against each other unnecessarily.
