Multiple award-winning Nigerian singer and songwriter Simi has waded into the heated debate over the now-viral Ibom Air incident, shifting the spotlight away from the controversial passenger to focus on the person who filmed and shared the footage.

On Monday, August 11, 2025, the Duduke crooner took to her Instagram Stories to strongly criticize the decision to upload the unedited clip, describing it as an invasion of privacy and a disregard for human dignity.

The video, which quickly spread across social media, showed a female passenger being escorted off the aircraft in a situation where parts of her body were exposed to the camera.

While admitting that the woman’s actions on the plane could carry legal implications, Simi argued that the individual who captured and posted the unblurred footage should also be held accountable.

“So let’s say the lady is actually mad and did too much,” she wrote. “Someone recorded her being dragged off the plane, recorded her being exposed like that AND THEN POSTED IT without editing out this exposure or blurring it out. Lol.”

She went on to question the lack of public outrage toward the person behind the camera, stressing that both the in-flight disturbance and the public exposure deserve equal scrutiny.

“I personally wanna know who posted that video and why no one is holding him/her accountable. Because aunty will face the law, but voluntarily posting her half naked for millions of people to see, when less than 10 people actually witnessed it in the first place, deserves punishment,” she wrote.

Simi concluded with a pointed reminder about fairness in judgment.

“Because you can’t condemn one madness and leave another one,” she said, implying that shaming someone by violating their privacy is itself an offense.

Her remarks have since triggered fresh conversations online, with many weighing in on the ethical and legal responsibilities of bystanders who publish sensitive footage in the era of instant social media virality.
