Nigerian Singer, Simi has stated that she does not believe that using violence to discipline children is the best solution.
Simi made her thoughts known in response to a tweet criticizing African parents for raising their children with violence.
According to the singer, using violence in the form of beatings to punish children makes little impact and traumatizes them for the rest of their lives.
On Sunday, November 7th, 2021, she posted this on her Instagram stories.
In her post, she stated that parenting is difficult and that every parent should receive instruction on how to raise healthy children.
The artist was perplexed as to why slapping a child is considered punishment while doing the same to an adult is considered physical abuse.
She acknowledged that raising a child requires patience, but added that children will put that patience to the test.

Sadly, she remarked that some caretakers and parents beat their children when they make errors out of rage.
Simi then asked if parents who easily hit their children had tried alternative methods or if they lacked self-control.
In her words;
My take is why is it correction to beat a child when s/he’s wrong, but physical abuse when you beat a adult for the same thing? Is it because they can’t fight back? “spare the rod” but she an actual rod? Raising a child takes a ridiculous amount of patience and they will test it.
