Why I’m successful in music industry – Simi
Simisola Kosoko, widely known as Simi, a Nigerian singer, has attributed her success in the music industry to the sacrifices of female artists who came before her.
The mother of one recognized the pivotal role played by these trailblazing women in breaking barriers and paving the way for others, especially in a male-dominated field.
In a recent conversation with African Folder, Simi emphasized, “There are women who have worked hard to damn the status quo. So, I won’t give myself much credit other than for benefiting from other women who came before me.”
Simi initially started her career as a gospel artist before transitioning to secular music in 2014. Reflecting on her journey, she once mentioned in an interview that she shifted away from gospel music because it wasn’t as financially rewarding.
Recall, Boy Spyce come to the defense of his fellow artist Simi amidst criticism, emphasizing her immense talent.
Following backlash directed at Simi, where some fans called for changes to her voice, citing monotony in her sound, Boy Spyce took to his social media to express admiration for her.
He revealed that he was drawing inspiration from Simi’s music while working on a song of his own, highlighting her exceptional talent.
On his social media handle, the Mavin Records artist wrote: “Writing a ballad song rn in my car and jamming Simi’s Simisola album for inspo … Omo y’all don’t realize how talented that woman is!”
Boy Spyce’s words serve as a reminder of the depth of Simi’s artistry and the impact of her music on fellow musicians in the industry.
