Shatta Wale knocks Black Sherif, others calling for ban of Nigerian music in Ghana
Ghanaian dancehall star Shatta Wale has criticized his colleagues for advocating a cessation of Nigerian music on Ghana’s airwaves.
Notably, artists like Black Sherif, Samini, and Reggie Rockstone expressed concerns about the dominance of Nigerian songs on radio and TV, with a press conference urging Ghanaian media to play 100% Ghanaian music to promote their culture.
In response, Shatta Wale argued that even if Ghana implemented the local content policy, Nigerian music would still overshadow them, especially in the streaming era.
He expressed skepticism about the effectiveness of the policy, stating that the government can’t force Ghanaians to stream local music. Shatta Wale went on to suggest that it would take Ghana until 5050 to catch up with Nigeria in terms of music dominance.
Shatta Wale wrote, “The way Wizkid and Davido and Burna Boy love Ghana nu, you ppl wan play dem a song 20%? No problem. One song from them go make your woman wet all nite.
E go take you ppl roughly the year 5050 before you guys will get what Naija is getting. Your spirit of wanna be is very bad. Is it by force for Ghanaians to listen to your fav? They like Wizkid.
Your artiste loose guard he no make money quick. Now he say play Ghana music. U weh dj’s play your song saaaa weh u no give dem shishi. Shame on you all. Your artiste no get shi shi. Artiste poor, fans poor!!! Music too no deh fly.”
