Shallipopi has allegedly parted ways with Dapper Music
Nigerian rapper Shallipopi has ignited speculation of a possible exit from Dapper Music after subtle yet telling social media moves.
Recently, the rapper removed Dapper Music’s name from his bio and unfollowed the label’s founder, fueling rumors of an end to their partnership.
Shallipopi’s journey with Dapper Music has been instrumental in his rise to stardom, with the label propelling him into the spotlight in 2023.
During this time, he released multiple hit singles and projects under their banner, including his debut EP ‘Planet Pluto‘ and debut album ‘Presido La Pluto.‘ His sophomore album ‘Shakespopi,’ which featured the chart-topping track “ASAP,” was also released through Dapper Music, cementing the Benin-born rapper’s position in the Nigerian music scene.
Earlier in 2024, Shallipopi launched his label, Plutomania Records, with artists Zerry DL and Tega Boi as its inaugural signees.
This move hinted at his intentions to expand his brand, though his latest single “Order” featuring Olamide—released through both Plutomania Records and Dapper Music & Entertainment—suggested continued collaboration between the two entities.
Despite the recent rumors, neither Shallipopi nor Dapper Music has confirmed a split, although these actions bear resemblance to Seyi Vibez’s recent departure from the label.
Shallipopi’s potential exit would mark a significant shift for Dapper Music, a powerhouse in Nigeria’s street music scene. Under the leadership of CEO Damilola Akinwunmi, who earned the TurnTable Chart’s Executive of the Year award in 2023, Dapper Music has become a driving force for hit releases, including a fruitful partnership with both Shallipopi and Seyi Vibez. Recent reports from TurnTable Charts placed Dapper Music second in market share in Nigeria between Q1 – Q3 2024, with a 7.97% share driven by its roster’s success.
As fans await official statements, the impact of Shallipopi’s rumoured departure from Dapper Music could reshape the label’s direction and influence within the industry.
