Veteran Nigerian musician Seyi Sodimu has shared his thoughts on the influence of Afrobeats’ biggest stars, explaining why Davido could succeed in politics ahead of Burna Boy.

Speaking on a recent episode of the What I Know podcast, Sodimu broke down the distinct strengths of the Afrobeats “Big 3,” Davido, Burna Boy, and Wizkid, noting that while all three wield enormous influence, their impact stretches in very different directions beyond music.
According to Sodimu, Burna Boy has cemented himself as a dominant global performer, celebrated for his commanding stage presence and international appeal, while Wizkid enjoys a unique, almost cult-like loyalty from his fanbase.
Davido, however, was described as an artist whose reach transcends entertainment.
“The Big 3 are all doing music for different reasons,” Sodimu said. “Burna Boy has conquered the stage, and he is very good. Wizkid is special. But Davido surpasses music.”
Sodimu argued that Davido’s deep grassroots connection, philanthropy, and ability to relate across social and economic classes could easily translate into political success if he ever chose to run for public office.
“If Davido ran for governor today, he would win. But I don’t think Burna Boy could win as a governor,” he added.
The comments echo earlier predictions by media entrepreneur and former senator Ben Murray-Bruce, who once suggested that Davido could eventually become governor of Osun State.
Such speculation is further fuelled by Davido’s political lineage, as his uncle, Ademola Adeleke, is the current governor of Osun State, reinforcing the belief that the Afrobeats superstar’s influence could one day extend fully into Nigerian politics.
“Burna Boy has conquered the stage and is good live. Wizkid is special. Davido surpasses music; if he ran for Governor today, he will win. I don’t think Burna Boy could win as Governor.”
