Seun Kuti breaks silence on Verydarkman controversy, denies masterminding activist’s moves
Nigerian social critic, commentator, and musician Seun Kuti addressed the controversy surrounding activist Martins Vincent Otse, also known as Verydarkman.
During a live session on October 25, 2024, Kuti discussed his relationship with Verydarkman, clarifying that while he supports him as a friend, he does not dictate his actions.
This statement comes in the wake of Verydarkman’s non-governmental organization receiving over N200 million in anonymous donations, which included a significant contribution of N100 million from music mogul Don Jazzy.
The donation has ignited online debates, with some critics questioning Verydarkman’s integrity. In response, Seun Kuti acknowledged that many people mistakenly believe he is orchestrating Verydarkman’s moves, emphasizing that the activist operates independently.
Kuti also shared his personal views on charity, expressing a preference for allowing individuals to reveal their true intentions through their actions. “I don’t like charity, but I like letting people do what they want… Let them show their real intentions,” he stated.
His remarks aim to clarify his stance and dispel any speculation regarding his involvement in Verydarkman’s activities.

Recall,Seun Kuti responded to critics who accused him of betraying activist Verydarkman after he issued an apology to Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Femi Falana.
The accusations arose after Seun publicly apologized to Falana, which led some individuals on social media to lash out, claiming he had betrayed Verydarkman.
Seun took to his Instagram page to address the backlash. In his reaction, he expressed frustration, stating that he would not allow people to use his life for entertainment.
He emphasized that Nigerians seem to be looking for someone to mislead or drag into unnecessary conflicts.
Defending his actions, Seun clarified that his apology to Falana did not equate to betrayal, as he never had any intention of fighting him. He went on to say, “You people are so stupid. Na who una go kee una dey find. I have banned Verydarkman from telling me about his stories,” making it clear that he had decided to distance himself from the drama.
