    • All our politicians are religous nutjobs – Seun Kuti blasts government and INEC

Afrobeat singer and outspoken social critic Seun Kuti has once again launched a scathing attack on Nigeria’s political establishment, accusing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of deliberately hindering political progress and branding the country’s politicians as extremists consumed by religion.

During a recent Instagram Live session, the youngest son of late Afrobeat legend Fela Kuti expressed frustration over the electoral body’s failure to reopen its voter registration portal since 2019. According to Kuti, this ongoing delay serves as a tool to disenfranchise Nigerian youths and block the emergence of alternative political voices.

“Brothers and sisters, since 2019, INEC has not opened any registration portal. Instead, they register people up and down. INEC has refused to open the portal. They don’t want Nigerians to grow politically,” he lamented.

He further criticized Nigeria’s lopsided political space, which he believes is entirely dominated by ultra-conservative figures, with no room for progressive or leftist ideologies to flourish.

“With the three political systems that are there, INEC cannot change anything. We need more political voices. Nigeria has no left. Nigeria is full of conservative right-wing politicians. We have right-wing fascist politicians only,” Kuti said.

The activist didn’t mince words as he took aim at the country’s ruling class, accusing them of fanaticism and violence. He cited the volatile political climate in Rivers State as an example of what he described as authoritarian rule under the guise of democracy.

“Mad people that would kill people! I mean, look at Rivers State. That’s a fascist way of governance. That is a right-wing government style. ‘My way on the highway’ – they start killing people, shooting certain states, and bringing military administration,” he stated.

Condemning the religious fervor that, according to him, blinds political leaders from rational governance, Kuti said:
“All our politicians are religious nutjobs. All of them, religion don scatter their brains. Rivers State is the symbol of right-wing fascism in Africa. INEC has brought us into right-wing fascist politics. They are all right-wing. Right, totally right-wing. None of them are Pan-Africanists.”

Seun Kuti, who has long used his platform to challenge Nigeria’s political status quo, remains one of the most vocal critics of the government and its institutions. His latest outburst continues a legacy of bold political commentary that echoes the revolutionary spirit of his father, Fela.
