Unexpected Inheritance Decision Made by Fela Kuti Revealed by Seun Kuti.
Seun Kuti, son of legendary Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti, recently shared a revealing insight into his father’s legacy.
Despite Fela’s immense influence and success, Seun disclosed that his father left him no inheritance. Instead, Fela’s acts of benevolence and generosity defined his legacy.
Seun recounted how, before Fela’s passing, the iconic musician was providing food for nearly a thousand individuals in their Kalakuta community.
In a candid Instagram video, Seun shed light on the true wealth his father bestowed upon him a legacy of compassion and altruism that surpassed material riches.
Seun said: “When Fela was the top musician in Nigeria, we were living with about 500 people in our house. All the money I was meant to inherit, Fela used it to cater for people.
“Everyone in Kalakuta was receiving daily allowance and weekly salaries. Both Kalakuta and [African] shrine. Almost 1000 people. They were artisans… We had all the professions in Kalakuta.
“My pocket money in 1990, throughout my primary school was N100 per day. My pocket money a day was bigger than my teacher’s salary.”
