Fela influenced Burna Boy, Wizkid, other Afrobeats artists – Sarz
Nigerian record producer Osabuohien Osaretin, widely known as Sarz, has shared insights into the profound influence of the legendary musician and Afrobeat pioneer, Fela Kuti, on contemporary Afrobeat artists.
Sarz expressed that the late music icon serves as a significant inspiration for present-day Afrobeats sensations such as Wizkid, Burna Boy, Rema, and even upcoming generations of musicians.
During a recent interview with ARZ, Sarz revealed that he actively incorporates samples from Fela’s musical catalog into his own work.
He stated, “Recently, I listened to Fela’s catalog and I just find things I can sample or flip. Even in modern Afrobeats, you can tell his influence on a lot of us, from Burna Boy to Wizkid to Rema, and to the generation even coming. I’m sure they will still be inspired by the legend.”
In other news, record producer Sarz and other notable figures have been revealed as judges for the upcoming music talent reality show, “Next Afrobeats Star.” Alongside Sarz, judges include Puffy Tee, Andre Vibez, and P. Priime. The show is set to kick off in January.
Initiated by Ultima Studios, the creators of the renowned Project Fame, which has played a significant role in nurturing talents like Chidinma, Chike, Iyanya, and Niniola, the “Next Afrobeats Star” aims to showcase a multitude of emerging stars.
