Sarkodie speaks on song that sparked beef with Nigerian artists
In an interview with Vox Africa, Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie explained the mindset behind his recent song that stirred controversy in the Nigerian music scene.
In the song, Sarkodie appeared to take shots at Nigerian music heavyweights Davido, Wizkid, and Burna Boy. However, he clarified that this was not his intention. Sarkodie stated that Wizkid, Burna Boy, Black Sherif, and Davido would never think he meant any disrespect.
He emphasized that his lyrics were directed at fellow rappers, highlighting his longevity in the industry.
To further clarify, Sarkodie mentioned that he chose to reference these artists because they are the most internationally recognized figures, making them the best examples to use. He also acknowledged that he appreciates the publicity the controversy has brought to his song, “Brag.”
“I wouldn’t like to clear it, because I like the energy that’s going.” Sarkodie says, “I thank God, Even if we wanted to plan this PR, we wouldn’t get this right.”
He also claims that the biggest criticism is that he did not include any rappers, as they are not as well-known as those he did.
“Wizkid, Burna Boy & Davido would never think I want to disrespect them. I was just talking to rappers about how I’ve been here for long”
