Veteran Nigerian record producer Samuel Oguachuba, popularly known as Samklef, has stirred fresh controversy after accusing Afrobeats superstar Davido of fuelling toxicity within the Nigerian music industry.

Samklef claimed this while reacting to a recent comment by fellow producer Pheelz, who had called out the growing culture of unhealthy comparisons and rivalry among fans and artists.
Joining the conversation, Samklef reflected on what he described as a more peaceful era in Nigerian music, when creativity thrived without pressure or hostility.
According to him, the industry was more enjoyable and united during the early days of Wizkid’s rise, a time he says was characterised by mutual respect and genuine love among artists. He added that the same atmosphere existed when Olamide came onto the scene.
However, Samklef claimed that things took a negative turn with Davido’s emergence, alleging that the industry became increasingly toxic thereafter.
“Music was fun when we started. When Wizkid came, there was no comparison—everything was pure love. Olamide came too, same thing. No pressure, no hatred, just music. Then one Scorpio boy who moves like Diddy..Davido entered, and since then the industry turned toxic. Cultist mindset, threats, fake streams, dirty moves everywhere,” he stated.
The comments have since sparked mixed reactions online, with fans and industry observers debating Samklef’s claims and the broader issue of rivalry within Afrobeats.
As of the time of this report, Davido has not responded to Samklef’s allegations or addressed the statement publicly.
