Afrobeat Superstars, Wizkid and Davido have been nominated for the 27th edition of the South African Music Awards, SAMA courtesy of their 2020 projects, ‘Made in Lagos‘ and ‘A Better Time‘.
On the 19th of May 2021, The South African Music Awards’ official Twitter page released this news with both Davido and Wizkid nominated in the category of ‘Rest of Africa’; a category comprising other African artists that are not South Africans but dropping great music.
Other artists from the category and their projects include: ‘Midnight Train‘ by Sauti Sol, ‘Unity Album‘ by Buffalo Souljah, and ‘Songs in The Key of Love‘ by Berita
In 2020, Davido won the category with his “A Good Time” album becoming the first Nigerian Artist to do that.

Other Nigerians to have won in different categories include Patoranking who won in the Best African Act category, making him not just the first Nigerian artiste in that category but also the first Nigerian to ever win a South Africa Music Award.
There is also May D was featured in Mafikizolo’s ‘Happiness‘ that won ‘Best Collaboration’ in 2014.
