‘This Is An Honour’ – Saheed Osupa expresses gratitude to Burna Boy for naming him among his Greatest Singer of All Time (GOAT)

Fuji legend King Saheed Osupa has expressed deep appreciation after Afrobeats superstar Burna Boy publicly named him as his Greatest of All Time (GOAT) singer.
The revelation came during Burna Boy’s recent light-hearted “GOAT Talk” session with tennis icon Roger Federer in Zurich, where the pair discussed their personal greats across sports, music, and even superheroes.
When asked about his favourite singers of all time, Burna Boy spotlighted Fuji, a genre that has greatly influenced his artistry. “My GOAT singers are mostly like Fuji artists. Like Saheed Osupa,” he declared.
The Grammy winner also traced his famous stage name back to his childhood love for comic books. “I used to draw superheroes when I was younger, and that’s how I got the name Burna Boy because I wanted to be a character in a comic book. My superpower would be fire flame,” he explained, adding that his GOAT superhero would be Black Panther.
But it was his Fuji-inspired admission that sent ripples across the Nigerian music community, prompting an emotional reaction from Osupa himself.
In a heartfelt tribute shared via social media, the iconic Fuji maestro described Burna Boy’s acknowledgement as both a personal and cultural milestone.
“Burna Boy’s heartfelt tribute, naming me as his GOAT singer on a global stage, is a monumental moment that celebrates the soul of Fuji music and its timeless influence. This honour not only uplifts my journey, but also shines a brilliant light on our rich cultural heritage, bridging generations and genres worldwide.”
Osupa, who is regarded as one of Fuji’s most consistent torchbearers, also praised Burna Boy as “a true Afropop titan, the African Giant himself” while affirming his own admiration for the Grammy-winning star.
“I am profoundly grateful for this powerful acknowledgment… Together, we are redefining African music legacy and inspiring the world with authentic, vibrant sounds. I look forward to attending one of your upcoming concerts to appreciate your God-given talents and reciprocate your genuine love and affection. Keep prospering, my beloved Burna @burnaboy,” he added.
Burna Boy’s recognition of Osupa not only underscores Fuji music’s enduring relevance but also highlights the deep interconnectedness between Nigeria’s traditional sounds and today’s global Afrobeats wave.
