Ruben Amorim responds to Marcus Rashford’s shock Man Utd transfer admission
Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has expressed his desire to see Marcus Rashford remain at Old Trafford despite the player’s recent comments hinting at a possible exit.
The England international, who has been in mixed form recently, was notably absent from United’s squad during their derby triumph over Manchester City on Sunday.
However, Amorim clarified that the decision to leave out Rashford and fellow forward Alejandro Garnacho was not punitive.
Explaining his approach, the Portuguese tactician highlighted the importance of professionalism beyond the pitch. “It’s about the way you dress, the way you eat, the way you engage with teammates and push teammates,” he stated.
Despite Rashford showing support for his team on social media, the academy graduate made headlines on Tuesday evening when he candidly admitted in an interview that he feels “ready for a new challenge,” sparking rumors of a potential January departure.
When asked about Rashford’s future during a press conference ahead of United’s Carabao Cup quarter-final clash with Tottenham Hotspur, Amorim made his position clear: “Of course, because this kind of club needs big talents, and he is a big talent. He just needs to perform at the highest level, and that is my focus. I just want to help Marcus.”
Amorim emphasized the importance of Rashford to the team, adding, “We are better with Marcus Rashford, and it’s that simple. We will try different things to push Rashford to the best levels that he has shown me in the past.”
Despite the ongoing speculation, Rashford has been training with the team, and Amorim confirmed that the forward is available for the midweek trip to Tottenham. “He is our player, and he is ready for the next game,” Amorim assured.
Responding to Rashford’s remarks about seeking a “new challenge,” Amorim took a pragmatic stance, saying, “He is right. We have here a new challenge, the biggest in football. We are in a difficult situation, and I hope all my players are ready.”
Summing up his approach to the situation, Amorim concluded: “What I want is to take the best of Marcus Rashford. I don’t talk about the future; I just talk about the present.”
As speculation continues to swirl, United fans will be closely watching to see how the situation develops and whether Rashford’s performance can match the high expectations set by his manager.
