Piers Morgan claims Cristiano Ronaldo wanted to join Arsenal & Gunners.
According to Piers Morgan, Cristiano Ronaldo wanted to sign with Arsenal in January and would have given them the Premier League title if he had.
When Manchester United terminated the Portuguese superstar’s contract in December 2022 as a result of an explosive interview with Morgan, he entered the free agency pool.
There were several potential destinations for the five-time Ballon d’Or winner at that time, including across Europe and the United States, but he ultimately decided to accept the most costly deal in football with Saudi Arabian team Al-Nassr.
Morgan thinks that if Arsenal had sought out to the legendary 38-year-old, he would have cheerfully traveled to Emirates Stadium. The Gunners are presently reflecting on what could have been after losing the 2022–23 domestic title game to Manchester City after holding a 12-point lead.
Morgan, who is fiercely loyal to Ronaldo, has posted on Twitter: “Mock all you like, but if we’d signed Ronaldo when he left Utd, until the end of the season – as he was keen to do btw – we would have won the League. He knows how to win major trophies, and how to score goals when it really matters.”
Jorginho, Leandro Trossard, and Jakub Kiwior were all signed by Arsenal during the January transfer window.
Ronaldo may have only scored three goals for Manchester United this season before being let go, but in 16 games for Al-Nassr, he has found the back of the net 12 times, demonstrating that he is still one of the most lethal and dependable goal-scorers in the league.
Given that they are no longer in contention for the title, Arsenal must now put together recruiting strategies for the summer of 2023. They are still extensively connected to players like Declan Rice of West Ham and Moises Caicedo of Brighton.
