Roberto De Zerbi claims Brighton deserved to break Man Utd’s hearts after FA Cup disappointment.
Following Manchester United’s humiliation in the FA Cup, Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi has justified breaking their hearts with a 99th-minute penalty.
After their recent loss in the FA Cup semifinal, the Italian was thrilled to see his team defeat United at the AMEX Stadium. Ironically, Brighton was able to exact their justifiable retribution on Thursday with a last-second penalty kick after United had won that match on penalties.
Speaking to Sky Sports, De Zerbi said: “Really happy and delighted for the performance and result. There is a God of football. We deserved to win the semi-final but lost on penalties but today we won with a penalty. In both games I think we played better than United. The last result was unfair.”
With two games remaining, Brighton has climbed to sixth position in the Premier League standings and is now four points behind fifth-placed Liverpool. They trail United by eight points with one game remaining, but they still have a slim chance to get to the Champions League through the Europa League instead.
The Italian will lead his Brighton side out to face Everton on Monday, before they play Arsenal on May 14.
