Reminisce shares how ‘Alaga Ibile’ sold 13 million copies and changed his life
Nigerian legendary rapper Reminisce, in a recent interview on the “I Said What I Said” podcast, shared the pivotal moment in his career that propelled him to mainstream success.
Reflecting on his journey, Reminisce revealed how his sophomore album, “Alaga Ibile,” released in 2013, became a game-changer, selling over 13 million units in Alaba Market, Nigeria’s leading music distribution hub at the time.
He recounted how his debut album “My Book of Rap Stories” didn’t make a significant impact, but *Alaga Ibile* completely shifted his career trajectory.
The album, which features hits like “Daddy Mi” featuring Davido and “Eleniyan” featuring Wizkid, not only gave him massive commercial success but also solidified his status as “Alaga Ibile,” a moniker he proudly carries today.
Reminisce also reflected on his third album, “Baba Hafusa” released during the early stages of music streaming in Nigeria. Despite facing criticism from fans for trying to appeal to a broader audience, the album was a commercial success, debuting at No. 12 on the Billboard World Chart, making him the first African rapper to debut on that chart.
His fourth album, “El Hadj,” made further history by debuting at No. 13 on the Billboard World Album chart, marking Reminisce as the first African rapper to have two albums on the prestigious chart.
Recently, Reminisce released a new EP titled “Sui Generis,” featuring artists like Vector, BadBoy Timz, and Bhadboi OML. The EP has been praised for its unique blend of hip-hop, fuji, and afrobeats, showcasing his ability to evolve with the music industry while maintaining his distinct style.
