‘Calm Down’ by Rema sets new record for highest charting African song on Billboard Hot 100.
Nigerian Afrobeat superstar Divine Ikubor, known professionally as Rema, has made history with his hit song “Calm Down” for the highest charting African song on Billboard Hot 100.
The exports of African music to a global audience are being driven by Nigerian superstars, whose genre, afrobeats, is quickly becoming the biggest in the world.
Rema’s blockbuster remix with Selena Gomez has now reached a new high position of NO. 6, breaking the African Billboard Hot 100 peak record that he previously broke with a NO. 7 position.
Rema’s “Calm Down” climbed one spot from its previous peak of No. 7 to No. 6 in the chart week of April 22, 2023, extending its run for 32 weeks.
Since its release in February 2022, “Calm Down” has enjoyed enormous popularity on a global scale. This success was further enhanced with the release of the Selena Gomez-assisted remix, which gave Rema his Billboard Hot 100 debut.
Before breaking the African charting record on the Billboard Hot 100, the song was awarded an RIAA platinum plaque.
‘Calm Down‘ is set to surpass over 2 billion across all platforms. It’s also the most watched Afrobeats music video on YouTube as it surpasses the previous record set by CKay’s ‘Love Nwantiti‘.
Fans are excited to see if Rema’s “Calm Down” can enter the top 5 of the Billboard Hot 100 after its remarkable surge on the chart.
