‘There is no Afro-rave without Afrobeats’ – Rema opens up on starting the Afro-rave sound.
Nigerian superstar Divine Ikubor, known professionally as Rema has revealed how he originated the Afro-rave sound and how Afrobeats had a significant role in the development of this new musical genre.
Rema has shared his creative process for the Afro-rave sound, emphasizing the contribution of Afrobeats to the development of the genre.
The singer stated that Afrobeats is the “mother tree” for various Afro sounds that come from the continent in an interview with Hot 97, an American radio station and that his style, known as the “Afro-rave,” is how he sees or observes Afrobeats.
He notes that many people initially did not believe in the sound, but he is delighted that people are listening to this sound now. He created a unique style that is known as the Afro-rave.

In other news, Afro-pop artist Fireboy DML stated that he does not consider himself to be an Afrobeat artist and would not use the term.
Fireboy in the interview said that his school suffered as a result of him pursuing his goals of being an artist because he had always known he would do so. He continued by discussing his album and everything that served as inspiration for his first, second, and third albums.
He also discusses the type of musician he is, stating that he wouldn’t classify himself as an Afrobeat musician because his songs have elements of reggae, pop, and other musical genres. When asked what musical genre he sings, he said that he is simply an African musician and not an Afrobeat musician.
