Rema reportedly parts ways with Don Jazzy’s Mavin Records after 5 years
Nigerian music sensation, Divine Ikubor, better known by his stage name Rema, has reportedly parted ways with Mavin Records, the label founded by Don Jazzy.
Rema, allegedly left the record label five years after joining, marking numerous hits and significant milestones.
The 24-year-old Nigerian singer joined Mavin Records in 2019 and immediately shot to fame in the music industry. His distinctive sound, which included pop, afrobeat, and trap components, helped him become well-known very quickly. His first EP, dubbed “Rema,” was an enormous hit, bringing him prominence on a global scale with songs like “Dumebi,” “Iron Man,” and “Corny.”
His single “Calm Down,” which featured American singer Selena Gomez, became incredibly popular because of Don Jazzy and Mavin Records.
Rema’s first Billboard Hot 100 entry came from the remix, which also topped the US Afrobeat chart. It rose to the top of the 2022 Afrobeats song streams. When the original and remix versions of the song are combined, there have been over 436 million streams.
Many fans are startled and curious about Rema’s future steps after learning that he has left Mavin Records. While neither Rema nor Mavin Records have officially announced the split, a comprehensive inspection of Rema’s Instagram shows that he has removed all of his photos, including those related to his record company.
Rema previously criticized Mavin Records for utilizing him for bogus PR.
In other news, Rema has made history by achieving one billion streams in the US for his hit single “Calm Down.” Released in 2022, the track has continued to gain popularity, including through its remix featuring Selena Gomez.
“Calm Down” reached number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, a rare accomplishment for Afrobeats songs. It also became the first Afrobeats track to top the American radio chart.
This milestone not only marks “Calm Down” as the first Afrobeats song to achieve one billion US streams but also makes Rema the first African artist to accomplish this feat.
