Nigerian singer, Rema has shared a hilarious story of how rapping Lyrics from rapper, M.I Abaga got him kicked off the stage when he was in a children’s church.
Rema narrated the story during an interview with media personality, Adesope on his Afrobeats Podcast.
The “Calm Down” crooner said that back then he and other ambitious artists in the church used to copy lyrics from other gospel artists to rap on stage.
He stated that during one of his performances, he ran out of lyrics and out of nowhere started rapping lyrics from Nigerian rapper, M.I Abaga.

He said that doing this led to him being kicked off the stage. His aunty later called him to the side and advised him to start writing his own lyrics which he took and began to implement.
In his words;
“As a rapper, when i started in children church, to be honest we had a couple gospel artists back in church…In TB1, rap nation that year we used to bite flow oo, no lie. Cos that time we could not write our own.
There was one time I rapped one wordly rap that they had to kick me off the stage in children church. Yeah, the beat was going, my flow don finish, I bring out one of M.I rap… It wasn’t teen church, children’s church, People started knowing from teen church. My aunty called me to the side, you need to start writing your own, you know that when I took it serious and started writing my own”
