Nigerian Afropop superstar Rema has recently opened up about his habit of smoking cigarettes, offering insight into the personal and emotional factors that led him to take up the habit.

In a frank and honest conversation with UK media platform GRM Daily, the young artist disclosed the stress and anxiety that he has faced in his rise to fame.

Rema revealed that he grew up too fast and was forced to sell his childhood to provide for his family after losing his father and brother. He expressed his desire to feel like a child again and be a rebel, feeling free and breaking some rules.

This led him to pick up vices like smoking cigarettes, for which he is being judged due to his public persona.

The Afrobeats superstar, whose sophomore album ‘HEIS‘ is still gaining waves, spoke about how his strict schedule from an early age took a toll on his spirit.

He said: “i really wanted to feel like a child again; it’s been something that literally tore out my spirit. ’cause I feel like I grew up too fast. Life switched up on me crazy. When I lost my dad, when I lost my brother, it was just like… the weight was just on my shoulder, and it forced me to just sell my childhood just to provide for my family.”

Rema’s candid conversation offers a glimpse into the personal struggles that he has faced in his journey to stardom. Despite his success, he has faced stress, anxiety, and the pressure of providing for his family.

His decision to take up smoking cigarettes is a coping mechanism, a way to rebel against the strict schedule and responsibilities that have been thrust upon him.

As Rema continues to navigate the ups and downs of fame, his honesty and vulnerability are a testament to his strength and resilience. His music remains a source of inspiration for many, and his willingness to speak openly about his struggles is a reminder that even in the spotlight, celebrities are human too.
