Reasons why we think Wizkid is bigger than Davido
1. First African to Debut on Spotify’s Global Album Charts with an Album
Wizkid became the first African musician to chart on Spotify’s Global Album Chart with his album “Made In Lagos.”
The album debuted not only on the chart but also in the top 10.
The album debuted at number 10 after only one week of monitoring between October 30th and November 3rd, 2020.
2. The African Album With The Longest Charting Time On The Billboard World Albums Chart
Wizkid’s album “Made In Lagos” has stayed more than 70 weeks on the Billboard World Albums Chart, making it the longest-charting African album.
Wizkid broke the record set by Cesaria Evora with her album ‘Cesaria,’ which she had held for 27 years.
When it reached number one on the charts, it became the highest-charting album by a Nigerian.
3. First Nigerian to receive a Billboard Award nomination
Wizkid made history by being the first Nigerian to be nominated for a Billboard Music Award for collaboration as well as his own single.
In 2017, he garnered seven nominations for his collaboration with Drake on ‘One Dance,’ and in 2022, he was nominated for his song ‘Essence.’
4. First African and Nigerian song to be certified platinum in the United States
Wizkid’s smash single “Essence,” which featured Tems, was certified platinum by the RIAA on Monday, October 4, 2021, after selling over a million copies.

When BET officially announced the list on Wednesday, June 1, 2022, Wizkid, who received two nominations, became the most nominated African artist for the annual black celebration awards.
