Real Madrid ‘reach verbal agreement’ to sign Alphonso Davies from Bayern Munich
According to a report, Real Madrid has reached a verbal agreement with Alphonso Davies for a potential transfer from Bayern Munich, slated for either 2024 or 2025.
Real Madrid has been actively pursuing Davies throughout the current season, considering him a priority target alongside PSG’s Kylian Mbappe. While Davies’ contract with Bayern extends until the summer of 2025, discussions regarding a new deal have stalled.
Recent reports from Germany suggest Bayern may consider selling Davies in the summer 2024 window to recoup a fee rather than risk losing him for free the following year.
The Athletic reports that Madrid has reached an agreement with Davies to secure his signing within the next two summer transfer windows. Madrid’s recruitment efforts, led by chief scout Juni Calafat and director general Jose Angel Sanchez, have involved encouraging Davies not to renew his contract with Bayern to facilitate a smoother transfer process.
Despite interest from Premier League clubs and preliminary inquiries from Barcelona, Davies reportedly favors a move to Madrid.
Bayern, however, has not engaged in discussions with Madrid regarding Davies and would prefer him to sign a new contract. However, if negotiations remain at an impasse by summer, Bayern may opt to sell Davies. This situation mirrors Madrid’s acquisition of Toni Kroos from Bayern in 2014, where the midfielder moved to the Santiago Bernabeu for a reduced fee due to his contractual situation.
Since joining Bayern from the Vancouver Whitecaps in 2018, Davies has amassed 180 senior appearances, establishing himself as one of the world’s premier left-backs.
