Mbappe’s transfer to Real Madrid finally officially confirmed after lengthy saga
Champions League winners Real Madrid have confirmed the signing of Kylian Mbappe on a free transfer following the expiration of his contract with Paris Saint-Germain.
The France captain announced in May that he would leave PSG at the end of his seventh season with the club, during which he became their all-time top goalscorer with 256 goals.
The 25-year-old has been a long-term target for Los Blancos, who secured their 15th Champions League title by defeating Borussia Dortmund on Saturday night. News of a total agreement between Mbappe and Real Madrid broke on Sunday.
Mbappe hinted at the deal during a brief meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron, stating that the announcement would be made on Monday night. The official confirmation has now arrived, with Mbappe signing a five-year deal.

This concludes a protracted transfer saga that seemed to be resolved in 2022 when Mbappe signed a new contract with PSG. However, it was revealed a year later that he would not sign another extension, leading to his exclusion from the club’s pre-season tour of Japan. Mbappe was later reintegrated into the squad and scored 44 goals in all competitions during his final season in Paris, which included a Champions League semi-final run and a seventh Ligue 1 title.
The 2018 World Cup winner joins an already formidable Real Madrid squad. Vinicius Junior and Jude Bellingham had stellar 2023/24 campaigns, with additional support in attack from Rodrygo, Brahim Diaz, Arda Guler, and the incoming Brazilian sensation Endrick.
Madrid’s defense features goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois and defenders like Antonio Rudiger, David Alaba, and Eder Militao. Their central midfield is equally strong, boasting stars such as Federico Valverde, Eduardo Camavinga, Luka Modric, and Aurelien Tchouameni.
Real Madrid, the La Liga holders, will now be without club legend Toni Kroos, who has announced his intention to retire after playing at Euro 2024 for Germany.
