Rema breaks 41 year old Billboard record with ‘Raves and Roses’.
With his internationally acclaimed album “Rave and Roses,” Rema, a Nigerian afrobeats sensation, has shattered a record that had stood on the US Billboard Albums chart for forty-one years.
Rema’s music is one of the greatest Nigerian musical exports of the past few years.
Rema’s debut album, ‘Rave and Roses’ has spent a whopping 31 weeks on the US Billboard Albums Chart.
Afro-juju superstar King Sunny Ade set the previous record for this amazing achievement. The 1982 album “Juju Music” by King Sunny Ade spent 29 weeks at the top of the US Billboard chart.
Unfortunately, King Sunny Ade retained the record for the longest period of time and no other Nigerian musician would even come close to matching it, much less peaking on the Billboard music charts.
However, in 2017, Nigerian artists began to once again show up on the charts with Wizkid’s third album ‘Sounds From the Other Side’ which debuted at #107 on the US Billboard 200 chart.
Other Nigerian artists, such as Davido, Fireboy DML, Burna Boy, Ckay, and Asake, have charted on the US Billboard charts since 2017.
Rema’s arrival on the music scene demonstrated a side of acrobats that audiences all around the world adored. Rema’s debut album has broken ceilings and records, demonstrating the global rise of afrobeats.
The deluxe edition of Rema’s ‘Raves and Roses‘ demonstrates that the young artist is full of surprises, and we can’t wait to see what he does next.
