President Bola Tinubu rewards Super Falcons in grand style with … after their Historic WAFCON victory.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has handsomely rewarded the Super Falcons of Nigeria following their triumphant outing at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The victorious team, which clinched a record-extending 10th WAFCON title, was hosted by the president at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Monday, July 28, 2025. During the reception, President Tinubu praised the players and technical crew for their resilience and skill and for “inscribing Nigeria’s name boldly on the sands of African football history.”
In recognition of their achievement, the president conferred the National Honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) on each of the 24 players.
He also gifted them three-bedroom apartments and a generous $100,000 cash reward each. Members of the technical crew were not left out, receiving $50,000 each for their contribution to the historic win.

This presidential gesture comes in addition to the $1 million prize money the team received from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for winning the tournament.
The 2024 WAFCON final was one for the ages. The Super Falcons, facing a spirited Moroccan side backed by a home crowd, found themselves trailing 2–0 at halftime, thanks to goals from Ghizlane Chebbak and Sanaâ Mssoudy.
However, Nigeria staged a stunning comeback. Esther Okoronkwo pulled one back from the penalty spot before Folashade Ijamilusi levelled the score in the 71st minute.
The decisive moment came in the dying minutes when substitute Jennifer Echegini netted the winner in the 88th minute sealing a 3–2 victory and sparking wild celebrations across Nigeria.
This landmark triumph reaffirms Nigeria’s dominance in women’s football on the continent and marks one of the most dramatic comebacks in WAFCON final history.
