President Macron urges French Football Federation (FFF) to hand Deschamps a new contract.
President Emmanuel Macron wants the French Football Federation (FFF), also called the French FA, to hand a new contract to manager Didier Deschamps as a reward for reaching successive World Cup finals.
In the 2022 World Cup semifinals, France defeated Morocco 2-0 after a spirited contest, setting up a titanic matchup with Argentina in the national title game. Macron, the president of France, was there at the Al Bayt Stadium on Wednesday and was overjoyed when Les Bleus triumphed.
After the victory, the French president lauded manager Didier Deschamps and pushed the FFP to extend his contract, which is set to expire at the conclusion of the competition.
“A huge thank you to our coach, Didier Deschamps, and to this team which is in fact a mixture of several generations, and that’s what is great,” Macron told reporters after the game.

“Deschamps, it’s three finals, and he wins them! Never two without three, Deschamps is there, with his baraka and his talent. We bring back the cup and obviously Deschamps must stay! This French team makes me very proud.”
As the head coach of the French national team, Deschamps has had a fantastic run. Ahead of Portugal in the 2016 European Championship final, he led his team there.
He won both the UEFA Nations League and the World Cup two years later in Russia. He would become the first men’s team coach to win back-to-back titles since Vittorio Pozzo of Italy (1934 & 1938) if he is successful in raising the World Cup trophy.
Les Bleus will now face Lionel Messi’s Argentina in the title decider on Sunday at the Lusail Stadium.
