Premier League reveal shortlist for 2022/23 Young Player of the Season.
Eight players have been announced on the final shortlist for the 2022/23 Premier League Young Player of the Season award.
To be eligible for this reward, players had to be 23 or younger when the season began.
In 2021–2022, Phil Foden of Manchester City won, and there is a significant probability that the trophy will return to the Etihad Stadium now that Foden’s colleague Erling Haaland has been nominated to the shortlist.
Haaland smashed the all-time scoring record in his first season in England, propelling City to yet another Premier League title. It may be said that this argument is strong.
But with three of the youthful core of the Arsenal squad making the cut, there is a lot of competition.
Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard, and Gabriel Martinelli are all deserving of the honor. In a season that has blown Arsenal’s expectations out of the water, all three have hit double figures in goals, with plenty of assists thrown in.
Brighton have two candidates, including the in-demand midfield pair of Alexis Mac Allister and Moises Caicedo.
Both have been in exceptional form, generating significant attention from around Europe following a season in which the Seagulls might yet qualify for Europe. It remains to be seen whether either player will still be at the AMEX this time next year.
Last but not least, Sven Botman and Alexander Isak of fellow overachievers Newcastle United are nominated for the honour.
Isak has blossomed in the second half of the season after missing most of the first six months due to injury, while Botman had an immediate impact on Newcastle’s defence, which may yet end up being the meanest in the division.
Fans can vote for their preferred winner, with those votes being combined with a panel of experts to determine the eventual winner.
