In an unprecedented move, the Premier League has announced an earlier-than-usual opening for the 2025 summer transfer window to accommodate clubs preparing for the FIFA Club World Cup.
Typically commencing in mid-June, the window has been temporarily adjusted following FIFA’s proposal to allow clubs involved in the tournament to fine-tune their squads beforehand.

According to the Premier League’s official statement, the transfer window will open from Sunday, June 1, to Tuesday, June 10. Importantly, this early period is not exclusive to teams participating in the Club World Cup—all clubs will be permitted to conduct transfer business during this timeframe.
However, FIFA regulations cap transfer windows at 12 weeks, meaning there will be a brief suspension before the window resumes on Monday, June 16, running as usual until it closes on Monday, September 1.
This adjustment presents a unique advantage for clubs eager to secure signings early. It also introduces an intriguing scenario where clubs might opt to pay transfer fees for players whose contracts typically expire on June 30, rather than waiting for free transfers.
Premier League clubs have today agreed the dates for the Summer 2025 Transfer Window.

For instance, Real Madrid could negotiate with Liverpool to sign Trent Alexander-Arnold in time for the Club World Cup, even though the right-back would be available on a free transfer just a couple of weeks later.
This summer’s FIFA Club World Cup features Chelsea and Manchester City as the Premier League’s representatives. The stakes are high, with the tournament offering a staggering $125.8 million (£97.1 million) prize for the eventual champions.
With the early transfer window set to shake up the summer market, clubs will be looking to capitalize on this rare opportunity to strengthen their squads ahead of a historic tournament.
