Portable Sparks Controversy with Comments on President Tinubu and Former President Buhari

Controversial Nigerian street-hop artist Habeeb Okikiola Badmus, popularly known as Portable, has once again ignited debate on social media following remarks made about President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the late former President Muhammadu Buhari.
In a new video posted to his Instagram page, the Zazoo Zeh crooner praised President Tinubu’s leadership, describing his administration as the best Nigeria has ever had.
He stated, “Since I was born, they’ve always said ‘Nigeria will get better.’ It’s during Tinubu’s tenure that Nigeria truly improved. He’s the best president so far.”
This comes just days after Portable released a strongly worded video condemning former President Buhari and holding him responsible for the 2020 Lekki Toll Gate shooting during the #EndSARS protests. Contradicting common narratives that implicate political figures from Lagos, Portable insisted that Buhari gave the order, not Tinubu.
However, the artist’s follow-up comments attacking critics of President Tinubu, in which he reportedly used harsh language and even wished death upon detractors, have sparked widespread outrage.
Many Nigerians online have called his statements reckless, insensitive, and divisive, especially given the delicate nature of the issues discussed.
While Portable is known for his outspoken and often controversial persona, his recent string of political commentary has raised questions about the responsibility of public figures in shaping discourse around national leadership and historical events.
